I suspect there is a lot of self selection here; that is, I suspect that the unvaxxed & vaxxed populations are quite diff in many respects.

Austin family says toddler was turned away from hospital due to lack of space in pediatric ICU | KXAN Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — After a brief scare in a local pediatric intensive care unit, an Austin couple is sharing their message: get vaccinated and wear a mask.

Kevin Karaffa, whose 22-month-old daughter was recently diagnosed with the viral respiratory infection, claims he was turned away from an Austin-area hospital because there was no space. Luckily, he says his family received one of the last beds in the Dell Children’s PICU.

Three hours later, Karaffa says a 10-month-old took the final PICU bed next door. He says a Dell Children’s nurse informed them that there were no more available PICU beds in the area.

“My daughter responded well to treatment, so they sent us to the recovery floor this morning since Dell Children’s needed the ICU bed so badly,” Karaffa said. “This is scary and I think Austinites ought to know that, just like Dallas’ Judge Jenkins said: if your child needs critical care, [they] will have to wait for another child to get better or die before a PICU bed will be available in Travis County.”

Doubtful. Not getting vaxxed is literally the riskiest thing you can do with regards to covid.

Yeah, it seems if you are going to take the risk of not getting vaccinated, then you're probably not to worried about being in crowds or whatever.

Now I would say that people who do get vaccinated likely change their behavior after being vaxxed and engage in less distancing. I know I have.

I think he means that some vaccinated people might think they are now Superman and don't take any precautions at all.

It's not the vaccinated that are the problem

I know the science deniers like to find stats that support their beliefs, so I am not sure which ones are the stats du jour.
" Yeah, but how many deaths"
"But how many kids are dying"
"But really, how many guys named Nigel died between Tues and Thurs in Poughkeepsie"

    This one seems telling:
Three-quarters of ICU beds across country are full

    And surprise, surprise:

Alabama has surpassed its ICU capacity as hospitals report 1,613 patients in ICU units, amounting to 102.3 percent of the state’s ICU beds.

Other states are nearing their limit for ICU beds, with Mississippi, Florida, Texas, Georgia and Arkansas all at least 90 percent full.

I'm sure they change their behavior after being vaxxed but I do not think vaxxed people are behaving more recklessly than unvaxxed people.

A rough estimate, but being vaxxed decreased a person's chance of catching covid by 85% and of being hospitalized by over 96% compared to being unvaxxed. Whatever the effects of any waning protection of vaccines, their protection is still massive, comparatively.

Covid is a problem for the world. The unvaxxed in the US are the biggest problem within that problem because it's a choice they make--putting others higher risk including those who wind up having to care for them when they get ill with covid. There's no intellectualizing around it.

Hospital doctors and nurses are seeing significant numbers of children apologizing to an unvaccinated parent on a hospital bed, thinking that they have caused the parent to get Covid and possibly caused their impending death. So if you want to scar your children for life, by all means stay away from that vaccine.

‘As they’re being intubated, they still don’t believe it.’ The COVID denial won’t die

Here is a story for people who have avoided getting vaccinated because they already had Covid. It checks all the boxes for excuses that unvaccinated people have for not getting the vaccine:

    1) Already had Covid.

    2) Not elderly (guy was 56).

    3) In good physical condition (guy was a fitness instructor in great shape).

Yet the guy still got Covid again, and by some accounts, came within an hour of dying from it.

An Unvaccinated Fitness Coach Thought COVID Antibodies Would Protect Him. He Almost Died.

We agree Covid is a problem for the World.

But the idea that someone is deciding to wait and see that this technology is overall safe with more than a year/2 years/4 years of data is not intellectualizing what is going on…is just wrong.

Meanwhile they'll take horse parasite meds or are healthy and think they don't need it or they just don't want others telling them what to do etc. It's selfishness and confused thinking. People are confused because there are others who have made it their job to sew that confusion.

But now that Pfizer has been fully approved, if their hesitancy was based on alleged safety, they lost it as a justification.

It's moving the goal posts to claim 2-4 years.
