That is a model. We have data from the UK(who doesn’t mask children under 12) that says covid isn’t spreading in the schools. I posted it previously. I’d go with the real world data over the model.

 

And we have data currently in Florida that says children have the highest positivity rate of any age group in Florida.

And yet, Covid was spreading wildly through the English schools as the Delta variant displaced other variants right up through summer break.

Also, we should be very careful about referring the UK as if it were some homogenous kingdom. Scotland and Northern Ireland are still mandating masks for all students and staff. England and Wales are not.

Finally, an interesting side note talking to our co-workers in Ireland. Most of the primary schools across the UK are designed to be "out door", where most classrooms have windows and doors that open outside like old US motels. Very few US primary schools, at least in cities, are designed like that at all. So, drawing comparisons to US and UK schools should be made with much greater care than throwing out 1 study in my opinion.

Some crazy contact tracing going on there. Pediatric Hospitalizations aren’t going up at significant rates. So the UK schools have about .4% of the kids out with Covid. Not a crazy number at all.

 

Update on my step-sister's boyfriend: he's now in the hospital on oxygen. I don't have many details beyond that.
