How is mask compliance measured in communities? Very early on in covid this came up. Still haven't seen any valid objective measure of compliance across large numbers of people, especially if compliance also includes properly wearing masks.

If it is so easy, then prove it. The medical and public health concensus is that masking helps. If you are going to assert it doesn't, the burden of proof is on you. Otherwise you may as well just assert you are Jim Morrison the Lizard King himself. People are just as likely to believe that as your masking assertions.

Well done. And we are both likely Covid free through this. That said…a cruise right now is about as risky as it gets. Vaccinated or not vaccinated.

It is not hard to be smart through this. That said restaurants are not a major spreading place. Bars and small dive joints/diners are a different story. A large open space restaurant is not that risky. Go enjoy meal before the cruise. That said I would avoid your small I spaced joints. We were hoping to hit up the Turtle Shack in Flagler recently but with the delta spread we ended up at the Atlantic Grill.

That is fair a fair question to think about. I think the best way to do it by looking at state/municipal mandates and how serious they were about enforcing them. For example. I think we would both agree Florida likely would be seen as a low compliant state. Though we did have high compliant communities in Broward/Dade/Orange/Hillsborough. As a state we were flatter than most during the spikes (delta is a whole new animal with its transmissibility being much higher) and our trouble areas during the surge were in those higher compliant counties. Now I would absolutely agree that the denser population was part of that. And I also think we would both agree California would be considered much higher for compliance. They make the curve look exactly like what you do not want to see.

End of the day the mask is just a prop or visual when it comes to wearing one in public. But that leads the masses to think they actually work. And they end up at a house party/party/small enclosed area because they think they work and end up in much riskier positions.

If we are talking N95 fitting everyone. I could see the argument. But the current mask guidance is a joke. Hence the CDC has never made the claim that masks “do”/“will”/“are” slow/slow/slowing the spread. They can’t make that claim. The data of spread does not reflect it. Hence they tell people to wear one in the super market but not in the car as they drive their with family and friends. They tell them to wear one indoors in public. But not the place it spreads most commonly. The house.

I can respect the person wearing it all the time. Or even the person who gets a fitted N95. I feel for the person living in fear. But the person that tries to shame others with their virtue from an illogical position is laughable to me.

You tell me which curve is the one you would prefer when the virus went wild in two large states with completely different perspectives for the mask and compliance.

Go ahead check out Illinois. Michigan. You name the state that was more mask compliant than Florida.

***note I am not saying masks are a driving factor in the spread one way or the other but that they are just a visual and prop for the government and people to virtue shame with***

You keep claiming that the data shows that mask mandates were not associated with lowered spread rate. That is still not true. There are multiple papers showing that it is.

Cases per 1 million people in the states you mention:

    California: 105,953
    Illinois: 116,595
    Michigan: 103,719
    Florida: 141,541

There is a pretty big gap there. If Florida had Illinois' case count, there would be more than 500K less cases in Florida. And that is the highest per capita case count state you listed.

Obviously, that isn't as sound of an analysis as the ones that I posted, but even your examples aren't showing what you claim they are showing.

Surprised you didn’t include the most important stat. You know, deaths per million.

    Michigan is 13th most
    Illinois is 17th most
    Florida 22nd most
    California 32nd most

Now this doesn’t take into account the fact that Florida has the 5th oldest population while Ca has the 5th youngest. But I’m sure you just forgot to post this info…

Yeah, if you can't follow along with the conversation, best not to jump in on it. He was discussing cases, not deaths, so it makes sense to address...cases, not deaths. But thanks for stopping by. Just next time, try to read before you do.

Although it should be noted that those states combined have 1,809 deaths/million compared to Florida's 1953. If Florida had those state's average deaths, there would be over 3K less deaths. I guess that is why you switched to rankings instead of raw figures.

IF's and BUT's. IF FL didn't have the 5th oldest population...

Thought I had heard some dumb comparisons today, but congrats, you take the cake with that one. Keep up the funny posts. Great stuff sport.

key is to check recent trends. Florida is awful. Our poor State leadership doesn’t help.

“Here is a breakdown of average daily COVID-19 deaths and COVID-19 deaths per 100,000 people over the last seven days in all 50 U.S. states and Washington, D.C. The data was last updated Aug. 19. “

Note: States are ranked by deaths per 100,000. The list includes ties.

    Louisiana
    Deaths per 100,000: 1.18
    Daily average deaths: 55.

    Mississippi
    Deaths per 100,000: 0.99
    Daily average deaths: 29.4

    Arkansas
    Deaths per 100,000: 0.94
    Daily average deaths: 28.4

    Nevada
    Deaths per 100,000: 0.7
    Daily average deaths: 21.7

    Florida
    Deaths per 100,000: 0.64
    Daily average deaths: 138.1

States ranked by COVID-19 death rates: Aug. 19

Oops, someones mad that they got called out posting about the most useless covid stat there is. Maybe you can post about how many contact tracings are for each state too LOL. Good job Sport. You will be right one of these days, just like a clock.

Lol, basically, this tweet describes you when you don't read or have a basic level of understanding:

From now on, whenever you start in on your nonsense, I will just post this. The difference is that you do it unironically. Anyways, if you are mad that I compared cases in Florida, California, Illinois, and Michigan, perhaps be mad at the person who said we should do that. Just a thought. I much prefer analyses of all of the data.
