What does "focus on obesity" look like outside of generalities? What would you specifically like the government (or any other group) to do about that issue that they aren't currently doing?

    I am playing dumb?
    Ok...let's dance.

    Do the vaccines help often/sometimes?
    Do seatbelts help often/sometimes?

    Show...me...data...that...the...vax...does...not...work.

Data. D-a-t-a. Show it to me.

Don't Show me that it isn't perfect. Show me that it doesn't work.

Oh...and what I am acting like is a conservative. A free minded conservative. Not a right wing boot licker...but an actual conservative.

Unfortunately this is tough when you believe in Freedom.

    That said…

Instead of wasting time on masks we could have accomplished a lot more if that same energy was put into campaigns to get outside. Exercise and Eat right.

But hey that is inconvenient as well…;):)

Those are long term goals that need to exist, but in the interim I think shorter term goals like masks and distancing
    are helpful.

We already run extensive campaigns for exactly that. Both privately and with public funds. Anything else?

I would like to see fitness and nutrition tied into public education more than it currently is. I would like to see a revamp on the cafeteria food to a healthier selection. Perhaps give exemptions for those who meet certain fitness standards the way kids can advance in other courses if they meet certain academic standards.

George McGovern was defeated in his state because he took the position that people should eat less beef. Not going to happen. Lobbies are pretty powerful; we subsidize food that is bad for you.

I’m a huge fan of being healthy. Remember when Michele Obama tried to change some of the dietary standards in schools and people lost their damn minds?
I will also say that when obesity becomes contagious, I will take a much harder stance.

I remember when the Obama administration tried to revamp cafeteria food to be healthier. It did not go well on the right-wing part of politics. Trump reversed it.

Trump to roll back Michelle Obama's school lunch rules on vegetables, fruits

I could recommend Eating fruits and vegetables as Whole Foods. And Not eating meat or dairy or eggs or fish. And, yes, people would be healthier. There would be less obesity. But the backlash from the “experts” would render that a futile exercise. And those same experts would still push what they call“healthy” eating.

    Do you now?

I seem to remember Michelle Obama having an interest in this. An actual effort at making school lunches more healthy and away from cheap/fatty processed foods. I think there was a certain mayor that wanted to ban “Big Gulps”, the over the top sugary drinks. These efforts were widely derided and mocked by conservatives, in pretty much the same way many have derided these COVID public health measures. Conservatives have been wrong across the board.

The GOP basically sided with the fatties and their children. “Moar Pizza!!!”. “You’ll take this 64oz Coke out of my cold dead hands”. I guess they must really want these people dead.

We subsidize meat and dairy and wonder why we have an obesity and type 2 diabetes problem. And fruits and vegetables are expensive. Sigh

People already know how awful obesity is for your health and they haven't changed. Encouraging people to be healthy would have zero impact on the COVID numbers.

How do you know he was against Michelle's program? I'm conservative and thought it was a great idea.

With Florida's weird new way of releasing covid data, total covid deaths jumped by about 600 today. Near as I can tell, that's about 3 or 4 days of reporting data.
