Agreed. This is not a learning experience. Virulent anti-vaxxers are helping the virus kill people. You see the rationale in these threads; they claim they are trying to learn, while posting every fringe, discredited "doctor" or "scientist" who they anoint as experts.

Same people who proclaimed COVID was just a flu, was being overstated to defeat Trump, that deaths were being overstated, that there would be no more than 1000 deaths and on and on and on.

The only thing that will convince these people is if they, or their families, suffer. And, maybe not then.

Unlike you, Fauci isn't going to respond to bad information.

"The Edgartown Board of Health won’t be able to detect any clusters until data from this week’s infections come in on Monday.

“It’s too early to tell,” said Janet Hathaway, assistant to the health board.

She said Friday if there is a cluster linked to last weekend’s 60th birthday bash on the Obamas’ nearly 30-acre Edgartown spread off Great Pond, it will probably be with the serving staff. And some of those workers usually cover multiple parties on the island — especially with the summer season in full steam."

Martha's Vineyard sees COVID surge, but Obama party not a cluster ... yet

Post the link attributing the spike in cases to the Obama birthday party. Because I just looked it up, and the authorities say it is too early to say there was a cluster from that party. Where everyone had to be vaccinated. And, they noted clusters up there attributed to restaurants. And, any complaint about a party up there is rich coming from you. You have absolutely no intellectual consistency to any position you take. Before the vaccines, you were against distancing measures, masks. You belittled the severity of the disease and the statistics. Now that we are wide open, and have vaccines that are effective at preventing severe disease, you mock the vaccines for the disease you constantly sought to diminish while complaining about parties. You need to get your head out of the rear end that is right wing information sources and actually use critical thinking that is fact based. Fauci outraged? Why should he be? And who cares? A decorated top immunologist, and he has become the source of derision on the right. A lot fewer folks would be dead today if they listened to him instead of the click bait stupid that they are drawn to. Then again, likes attract.

I don't understand this mindset. The people who are dying are the ones who are refusing the vaccines, they are exercising the freedom that they have been advocating for. They are volunteering themselves to science. The only thing we CAN do is learn from it.

In my opinion, we've got to stop calling the vaccines free...

Pfizer Reaps Hundreds of Millions in Profits From Covid Vaccine

I think it's a worthwhile argument to point out a cost comparison between vaccine, treatment, and hospitalization odds, and compare them by age groups, but nobody seems interested in presenting that data.

I can't accurately comment on that without seeing the data. What percentage of children under 12 are being hospital now vs. earlier in the calendar year? The case counts are high, but the severity does not appear to be so. In Shands, there are "2 or 3" children under 12 that are currently hospitalized even though they are having a record number of COVID patients (and anticipated to grow higher).

I don't know the exact numbers, either - I just know delta is making younger populations sicker, including children

My overly abbreviated, hard to interpret point (apologies) was that your argument of letting the unvaxed run their experiment leaves out the vulnerable under 12 population.

No, we can get infected from them, we can spend billions trying to keep them alive, we can put unnecessary stress and strain on our healthcare system and individuals involved, and we can hold our breath and hope that another, more deadly variant doesn’t grow out of their infections. How people can fail to recognize/acknowledge that reality is beyond reason

'Your child will wait for another child to die.' Amid Covid-19 surge, Dallas County has no pediatric ICU beds left, county judge says | CNN

Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations are surging and in Dallas County, Texas, there are "zero ICU beds left for children," county judge Clay Jenkins said in a news conference Friday morning.

"That means if your child's in a car wreck, if your child has a congenital heart defect or something and needs an ICU bed, or more likely if they have Covid and need an ICU bed, we don't have one. Your child will wait for another child to die," Jenkins said. "Your child will just not get on the ventilator, your child will be CareFlighted to Temple or Oklahoma City or wherever we can find them a bed, but they won't be getting one here unless one clears."

The judge added no ICU beds have been available for children for at least 24 hours. The Texas Department of State Health Services told CNN the shortage of pediatric ICU beds is related to a shortage in medical staff.

but of course it is the serving staff, we all know how responsible liberal democrats are, never w/o masks. if desantis held a birthday party with maskless guests, well we all know what the liberal press would say, supersporeader, yet it was ok for obama.

But you are including 12+ with "children." There is a vaccine available for 12+. Under 12 is not being hit hard according to our local experts. I don't see any data in the news you have prevented that suggests otherwise.

This is an area where people would be better served to get an accurate account of the data. We are not getting age breakdowns and an indication of what percentage of kid testing positive represent severe cases. If you tell people that 1 out of every 2 kids that tests positive will end up in the hospital, that's significantly different than, say, 1 out of every 100 kids that tests positive will end up in the hospital. What are the numbers? What are the risk factors for children ending up in the hospital?

I appreciate your outrage, but if you are not directing any of that outrage towards the production of data that should be readily available, then I would suggest aim some of it in that direction as it can only be more useful in guiding parents.

This is contrary to the idea of having compassion for the unvaccinated folks that are in the hospital. Or are you suggesting that only the children should have their costs covered?

Im saying choices should have consequences. Said nothing about anyone that cannot get vaccinated, just those that choose not to. Some kids that are eligible have parents that refuse to allow them to be vaccinated. I have no ill will towards them as they are not the one making the choice
