Totally off-topic but we were supposed to go to a peanut boil at my mother's side of the family. It's an annual event that I missed last year and due to the new outbreak I can't take a chance on going this year either.

Covid sucks but it sucks a lot worse for those who get really sick or even worse for those who die.

Over 600,000 dead Americans, I would be disappointed if something less important was the longest thread in GC history.

Well, a statistician would point out that the question under examination would be to not look at whether there was a generalized increase but the relative increase across different "regimes," controlling for a variety of other observable and unobservable differences. However, that is just what a researcher would suggest. But you have discovered something amazing here: that you can disprove a published peer-reviewed article in a pretty major journal from researchers in the field at the BU School of Public Health. You really should share that insight with the journal and the accompanying analysis to prove it. I am sure that the editors will put it through peer review and then you can prove your point to the entire world. Again, keep me up to date on the progress of this paper.

That’s a roundabout way of saying the studies were full of shit. Thanks for confirming.

You're not going to understand this but masks are but one of many variables in covid transmission. Cases can go up or down as the variables change. There are many causes for increased cases. That doesn't mean masks don't help make the number of cases lower than they otherwise would have been. But again, you're not going to understand this.

That is a roundabout way of saying that you are wrong and that your analysis would have no chance to withstand peer review. Thanks for confirming.

Here's an interesting twitter thread on how the anti-vaxxers that contract covid behave like marks of a conman (ie fraud victims). I think it makes an interesting case that calls for empathy are not helpful. Near the end, the tweeter proposes some better ways of influencing those caught in the society-harming group.

LOL. So basically this is you saying “we have no idea if masks work, but screw it, let’s virtue signal that we care by wearing a mask.”

got it. Thanks for confirming what I’ve been saying.

The new thing on the right is to blame illegal immigrants for the recent COVID spread. I hate scrolled (yes that’s a term) through a Newsmax post about Governor Ivy’s vaccination comment today and the vast majority of of the responses were blaming illegal immigrants.

it did. But md and azcat came roaring back. They don’t know when to quit. I mean being wrong on lockdowns, schools closures and masks is tough to come back from, but there is no quit in those little go getters!
