I'm slightly amused or puzzled by a disagree rating I got about someone in my circle who passed away due to COVID. You disagree that she passed away or disagree that if she were alive that she'd wish she'd gotten the vaccine?

This is exactly it. I work in clinical trials. The overall number of people who participate in a clinical trial for an FDA-approved drug can number in the thousands, from phase 1 through phase 3. More than 170 million Americans have now gotten vaccinated and there have been very few reports of serious adverse events. So a fully FDA-approved medication can be based on a few thousand test subjects. The covid vaccines have now been tested on 170 million Americans. I'd be far more comfortable getting a covid vaccination than taking some new fully approved medication that has really only been tested on a few thousand people.

I think this is a general fault of the press, if it bleeds it leads used to be a saying about it.

Do what you are comfortable with gives a safe spot for antivaxxers. Everybody needs to be vaccinated to protect themselves as well as those who physically can't be vaccinated.

Study: Past Infection Is Best Immunity | Newsmax.com
A new study suggests the COVID-19 vaccines offer previously infected patients with no greater immunity than they already have, a claim frequently made by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., an ophthalmologist.
The study found 99.3% of all COVID-19 infections in the test group came in unvaccinated patients who were not previously infected with the virus. The remaining .07% infections occurred in vaccinated patients who were not previously infected.

"Not one of the 1359 previously infected subjects who remained unvaccinated had a SARS-CoV-2 infection over the duration of the study."

Sen. Paul hailed the findings Tuesday on Twitter:

"Great news! Cleveland clinic study of 52,238 employees shows unvaccinated people who have had COVID 19 have no difference in re-infection rate than people who had COVID 19 and who took the vaccine."
"Individuals who have had SARS-CoV-2 infection are unlikely to benefit from COVID-19 vaccination, and vaccines can be safely prioritized to those who have not been infected before," the study concluded.

Allahpundit is the farthest thing from an alarmist - one of the Right Wingers I follow. This variant is spreading terribly without daily data from our third largest state. It hits kids especially although it is not able to overcome the good vaccines

Study is only preliminary, and has not been peer reviewed yet. There is also no mention that I found whether or not the study tested against COVID variants, or only the wild type. The real world experience of Manaus, Brazil, where upwards of 30% of people originally infected got re-infected by the Brazil variant suggests no variants were used in the Cleveland Clinic study. Though again, I could be wrong, and if anyone can find any information on variants in the Cleveland Clinic study, I'd like to read it.

If natural immunity is equal or better than vaccine immunity, even with variants, this is good news. Will help us get to herd immunity that much faster. If natural immunity isn't as effective against variants, like what is happening in Brazil, then unfortunately, those who had COVID already would still likely need either the vaccine and/or boosters to protect against new variants.

I know the sunshine pumpers don't want to read it, and some will laugh at the science, but this is a good read about variants.

This is great news for those worried about Covid, also some Doctors from UF feel the same way no reason to get the shots if you already had Covid. Hey you just blindly keep on believing faucci

It's not just Fauci that is warning against variants. In face, in all the links I have posted about variants, I don't think Fauci has authored or even been mentioned in one of them. Fact is, COVID copies itself in an infected person. Another fact is, these copies aren't going to be perfect, and there will be mutations. The majority of mutations will either be benign or harmful to the virus. But there will be some that give the mutated virus an advantage over other forms. This is called microevolution. It's a guarantee that will happen.

What isn't a guarantee is whether or not one of the variants will develop vaccine resistant, or resistance to natural immunity. Given what is going on in Brazil, it looks like there may already be a variant that has significantly beaten natural immunity, as 15% or more of current COVID patients in Manaus already had COVID once before.

Well at least the right has finally coalesced around their new boogeyman, Fauci.
The study provides a good data point, but not only might it not factor in variants as mentioned, there is also talk that the vaccines longer protection than the natural immunity.

Makes no sense that prior infection would have less immunity than a vaccine. They both trigger immune reactions to the same protein. Now, a variant might develop that circumvents the immunity. But, if the vaccines we have that were designed to deal with the first genome of the virus work against the variants currently known, it is because of the immune reaction to the protein, not something in the shot. And that should be the same with the immune reaction for prior infection. If a variant escapes the immune reaction for the prior infected, it would escape the current vaccines too. And we wound need a booster. Paul’s point is to focus on vaccinating those who are not previously infected to maximize the benefits.
