Maybe the are educated enough to know they are not at risk of dying. Believe it or not some people in the US are in excellent physical/mental state. The media will display the unhealthy and obese population at every chance.

Do you J-walk? Stand by something metal during a lightning storm? Or do you do things to limit your risk? And do you also do things to limit the risk to others? Or do you just plow through intersections and don't look for pedestrians?

Is it really Doctor? What is truly sad that you infused politics into a detailed personal family issue.

I'd be fine with that. But the issue is, not getting the vaccine and helping reach herd immunity puts others in danger as well.

You want to do something stupid like jump out of an airplane, middle of the desert, no parachute, be my guest. Doesn't affect me. But do something reckless that may effect me, don't expect me to be quiet.

Or maybe we should do an experiment. We'll all descend upon your neighborhood and test the statistic that it takes driving impaired 80 times before getting caught. What's the worst that could happen?

I guess it is. Sad that you lack patriotism. Some of us love America. Would be great if you'd be willing to make a minimal sacrifice for a country that gave you so much.

How many break though cases in Florida and Texas? We have been wide open for 3 months in all practical terms.

Your analogies all infer an unprotected full risk scenario, so I rewrote your analogies in a way that properly represents the current situation.
    Do you J-walk?
Am I J-walking across a country road with 99% of the traffic removed and the remaining traffic riding six feet away (distancing) from me on a flat tired unicycle wrapped in Charmin (mask)?
do you just plow through intersections and don't look for pedestrians? Is the person in the intersection that I plow through surrounded by body armor (Vaccine) while I ride 6ft away (distancing) on a flat tired unicycle wrapped in Charmin. (mask) ?
Stand by something metal during a lightning storm? Am I standing inside a rubber house near a metal chair on the rubber floor trying to figure out why I am now out of Charmin yet again?

Weird that all of a sudden masks and social distancing are no longer parachutes.

Why would that be weird? Those things have always been just as much about protecting others as they are yourself. Parachutes typically aren't.

But, to him masked/distanced people are running through intersections or standing in lightning storms.

First, when it comes to stopping the spread of COVID, vaccine > mask and social distancing. We'll never reach herd immunity through masks and distancing. These measures are to flatten the curve. Vaccines can all but zero out the curve through herd immunity.

Second, as stated, I wear a mask to protect you. You wear one to protect me. It's not a parachute. It only has limited protection for the wearer. The vaccine, on the other hand, protects both you and me. Breakthrough cases only occur when a vaccinated person is exposed to someone COVID positive. If you're vaccinated, the chances of you being COVID positive is reduced drastically.

The question then becomes, what action(s) are most safe for you and the community at large. Chances of being hit by lightning is low, but I still wouldn't recommend taking a 1 iron out in the storm and hold it up high. Wearing a mask and social distancing are good, but the vaccine is better. And until we reach herd immunity, I'd suggest getting the vaccine and still wear a mask with distancing.
