For a change, why don't you try to break down the numbers honestly to assess what raw numbers mean?

For example, with respect to raw deaths, do a month by month spread. And, compare that break down to available therapeutics at the time of those deaths.

So, for example, we knew far less about treatment in February, March, April and May than we do now. And many treatments were not available.

How does that affect your raw numbers?

And, 27,000+ deaths in Florida sucks. I don't care if more people died per capita in other states.

Despite you sycophantic devotion to DeSantis, the best you can say for him is that he doesn't suck as bad as other governors.

He was discussing excess deaths, not schools. Try defending the false numbers you presented and answer him. When you don't and then change the subject, you just lose credibility with people who are following along.

The old “I don’t care if more people died in Dem states, I hate DeSantis and will rip him and not say anything about a Dem Governor”. Weird, haven’t seen that act before...

Well, I’m going to post my numbers again.

Preliminary US death statistics show over 3.1 million total deaths in 2020—at least 12% more deaths than in 2019

According to preliminary weekly data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (as of January 6, 2021), 3,187,086 people died from all causes between January 1 and December 26, 2020.

According to the same estimates, 2,852,609 people died in 2019, meaning at least 334,000 more people have died so far in 2020 than 2019.

Now, all these numbers are not official and won’t be for a long while. So yeah, the numbers are the numbers. Get back to marching with the teachers unions to keep schools closed. And good luck explaining how somehow all the excess deaths are only due to covid. If anyone believes that crap, then they are beyond hopeless.

for the upteenth billion time, it has been proven that the covid problems at the nursing homes were due to employees bringing the virus in. same way it got into florida nursing homes. NY got the worst of it because there were no protocols in place with respect to how to treat it at that time and little to no testing available at the time

Once again, you are using old data. As of Feb 4, 2021 the CDC reports that 3,327,413 people died in 2020. CDC reports that 2,854,838 died in 2019. So as of now, 472,575 more people died in 2020 than in 2019. And that number will likely continue to rise a bit more as 2020 data continues to come in. There were well over 400k more deaths in 2020 than would have been expected based on normal yearly increases.

This thread has turned sad for reasons other than death and suffering.

It'd be nice to have a place to discuss what is hopefully the closing act. Can we all just ignore the trolls?

Why are you using as of Feb 4th? You were asking about something that was discussed weeks ago so I reposted what I posted. Sucks for you I was right when we had the discussion. And you still don’t know what the “preliminary” means. Just like I was right about schools and you were wrong. Back to rooting for schools to stay closed!

Anne Applebaum with a solid opinion piece in the Atlantic on the fragmented and opaque distribution system. I was a bit skeptical and thought the title was hyperbolic when I saw it but I think she was able to justify the title

Sad to say this is in my territory. Alfie Oakes is legit off his rocker, should have seen him threatening the commissioners when the mask vote happened. School boards cancelled his contracts due to his politics and he is suing them over it. Sad because his farm to table operation is pretty good local product at good prices and we used to frequent his stores often pre-covid.

That isn’t what I said. Your statement is a wilful misrepresentation of what I said. If you want a discussion, don’t re-write what I say to change the meaning of what I said.

Here is a what you said:

    upload_2021-2-5_14-19-45.png

LOL. What other interpretation do you make from this. You flat out said you don't care if more people per capita died in other states. It's ok, just own it. You bash DeSantis because he's a Republican and he has opened up schools and that flies in the face of what you've been arguing for 6+ months.

Exactly what I wrote. Not what you said. The crayon explanation of what I said is: 27,000 plus deaths stands alone as horrible on Florida. It doesn’t matter if more people died on other states; it doesn’t change that the Florida numbers suck. To draw a sports analogy: the Jags were worse than the Jets. But the Jets still suck. And it doesn’t make the Jets a success that the Jags were worse. Your attempts to elevate DeSantis by denigrating Cuomo don’t cut it; at best, they just show that both suck. Understood now? And, In any event, your raw numbers ignore confounding factors such as when deaths occurred and treatment options available when patients were hospitalized.

Terrible analogy. Need work on that as well. But lets stick to your sports analogy, since I don't want to confuse you. Let's use sports to compare NY and Florida.

NY has a Death rate of 225 per 100,000 people.

Florida has a death rate of 127 per 100,000 people

So Florida is 77.2% better than NY(hope you can do that math).

So sticking with the NFL, it's more like comparing a 6-10 team with an 11-5 team. You keep thinking those 2 are the same, while the rest of the world deals in reality.
