    Andrew Cuomo
    @NYGovCuomo

    NEW: New Yorkers age 65+ are now eligible for the COVID vaccine — effective immediately. Check your eligibility and find vaccination locations near you. I urge patience as unfortunately there are far more eligible NYers than there is vaccine supply from the federal gov.

    Well, at least Cuomo is following DeSantis's lead here. About time. Stop wasting vaccines and get in the people who need it most.

    No idea. Considering the fudged their numbers to hide the nursing home deaths, who knows at this point.

    I think being cautious with a new vaccine with limited data is reasonable. I think your suggestion is reasonable as well. We don't know what we don't know, and we just don't know much for sure about the new vaccines with entirely new design and manufacturing techniques yet.

    Thanks for the info. I looked into it when me and my wife received our first shot on the 8th. Looking forward to the second in two weeks. I will still follow all distance and masks protocols. What I’m looking forward to is being able to go back to my gym and not worry so much.

    That's not the correct interpretation of the data. Efficacy reaches full effect (i.e. ~95%) by 12 days at the latest. The 50% rate is calculated by comparing the number of infected by the 2nd shot vs. the number infected in the placebo group. However, if you look closer at the data, almost every single case of infection that occurred in the vaccine group happened by the 12 day mark.

    For example, let's say there were 100 people infected in the placebo group by 2 weeks, and 150 by 3 weeks, that's a steady 50 infections a week. Let's say the vaccine group has 100 infected by 2 weeks, and still 100 by 3 weeks. If you simply divide the numbers at 3 weeks, that's 100/150, you come up with 66% efficacy at 21 days. But if you look at the data closely, you'll see that there are 0 new infections after 14 days so it's really 100% efficacy after 2 weeks, and 0% efficacy before then.

    Given that a person does not show symptoms or test positive for a few days after the infection, the cut off for full efficacy is likely even a few days quicker than 12 days.

    Gwinnett County made it 7 days. Over 400 teachers out, ran out as well. They’re finishing the week then going all virtual Tuesday.
