Reading comprehension isn’t your strong suit. They picked 2 countries who didn’t have lockdowns at all to compare others to. Good effort though. More likely the reason some countries have better ratios than others is the previous 2 years flu numbers. If the flu numbers were low, than deaths would be up. If flu numbers were high, than Covid numbers more than likely are lower.

You can take comfort in the fact that most are over 65; they lived already. And, they had comorbidities which would have eventually killed them. And they died with COVID, not necessarily from COVID.

No matter the trouble breathing, the COVIS pneumonia, clotting, the related cardiovascular problems, etc.

@tilly, @oklahoma:, @HallGator. How do you let this poster get away with his repeated personal insults?

It makes reading this thread distasteful.

Yeah, this is the same group that put out the serology paper that was comically bad earlier in the pandemic (and apparently, the pool of money they made for that was used to pay for this garbage too). If you look at their design, they use Korea and Sweden to judge the counterfactual of what would happen without the measures. The treatment group is laughably cherry picked and doesn't include a single comparable country to either of the comparison countries (despite a variety of pretty easy comparables) and only 1/8 of the countries had a low infection rate during the data window (Germany, the others are basically just like they pulled the Top 8 off of a list from infection rates during the first surge to analyze- dropping only Belgium).

And that is before we get into the statistical issues that would normally be concerning, like endogenous selection (they handle the implementation of restrictive vs. nonrestrictive measures as random, which is, of course, not even close to true). But yeah, this would be an auto-rejection just based on the obvious sample issues. Same as their serology work.

What did I say that’s wrong? You either chose to not read what I posted or you didn’t understand it. Really no other option. Sure, you and the Bro’s will try to poor mouth the study but that’s expected from the lockdown/keep schools closed crowd. Look, it’s ok, lockdowns and school closures were terrible choices. But trying to defend that 2 foot high hill is pointless. Most rational people realize those measures were terrible decisions. But hey, keep digging that hole. You are almost to China at this point.

So let me ask you a question. Seeing these numbers, don't you think it would be wise to vaccinate the most prone to making your numbers go up? I mean, could you imagine the outcry if DeSantis threw away vaccines because he was being an idiot? The media would dog pile the hell out of him. Look at the numbers of who is getting the vaccine. Luckily my mom lives in Florida. My aunts and uncles in PA are no where close to getting the vaccine at this time.

Not sure how vaccination roll-out is working, but in Arizona, where I live, and CA, where my parents who are over 75 live, the 1A group for vaccinations included nursing home facilities, both residents and employees, as well as doctors and nurses who work in COVID wards. The 1B group includes everyone else over 75 and other first responders, including teachers. 1B group in both AZ and CA can set an appointment to get the vaccine starting today, and my parents should be doing right now, since it's just after 8:00 AM CA time as I write.

Seems like the vaccination roll-out is addressing those with highest risk first. But we're still having issues because holiday gatherings were only around three weeks ago, while the vaccinations were just being rolled out. With the COVID timeline, it's usually 10 - 14 days before symptoms, and then another 7 days or so before people begin to succumb to the virus. The time to help those in the hospital right now with COVID with the vaccination passed a month ago.

What's happening now should tell us that it is imperative that we all get the vaccine in order to reach herd immunity as soon as possible. But there is still a limited supply of the vaccine, and you can't take a vaccine if none is available to you at the time.

But that's the issue. Most states aren't getting the vaccine to the most vulnerable first. Look at the data. Anywhere from 9.5% to 25%. Should be a minimum of 50% if we actually care about stopping people from dying.

I haven't been on TooHot much with Hoops and Football, but 95 gets his share of backhanded insults too.
Busting people for reading comp has happened here by posters for years.

Please report any name calling or hurtful insults, but that is pretty tame to me.

    Just being honest my friend.

I dont find Duchen guilty of such things, but what 95 said is on the tamer side of what we see here.

But 95 resorts to insults in virtually every post. See post 21026 - 'Bros', 'most rational people...'. His posts are littered with stuff like this. I commented on the study and only the study. Nothing personal. He comes back with the reading comprehension thing. I don't really care -- I know what I am getting into when I respond to his posts. Expect insults. But at least acknowledge that he is the main instigator of insults throughout this thread. It's overwhelming.
