Yes, this blows my mind that this deep into the process, so many people fail to understand this concept. I’m about 3 weeks from contacting Covid myself. Dec 26th was my 10th day from onset of symptoms. I went and got retested so I could get cleared to return to work, the line at the drive up test site had to have been 200+ cars, many with unmasked families in the cars waiting to get tested. This site usually has 20-30 cars tops. My only assumption is that all of those people spent Christmas with friends and families and felt the need to get tested. The day after.... So, everyone there that morning tested negative then went about their business. Who knows how many we’re actually positive a few days later.

 

my point was that it was a stupid comment to say anti-maskers are not very bright, aka stupid,guess if i called pro-maskers idiots it would be ok with you?

 

People are choosing not to get the vaccine at this time. Personally, I think everyone over 75 should get this for sure. anyone from 65-74 should if they have underlying conditions. Same goes for anyone in lower age groups or wants to get it for their own personal reasons. Forcing people to get a vaccine that isn't FDA approved yet is the wrong choice at this point. We don't have enough data to make a qualified decision on this. Older people are at a risk at a huge multiple compared to younger people so it makes sense for them to take the risk. Hope these vaccines work and everyone can safely get them soon.

 

My wife and I will be vaccinated on Friday morning. We have an appointment.

We received an email from our primary doctors organization asking us to make an appointment. My wife called and the attendant set it up for us.

My only pause with it is I don’t want to get in front of medical, first responders, and the elderly in nursing homes. We are 66 and 67.

I don’t know if they have been served first? Does anyone know how Florida is distributing the vaccine?

 

Google your county on the vaccine distribution. In Escambia, there's a online form to register interest including contact info. At 66+, you're next in line.

 

I wouldn't worry about it, both >65 and healthcare workers are higher on the list per CDC recs. Priority is also subjective, there is no absolute right answer. I'd say if it's available to you and you want it, then go ahead and take it.

NEW STUDY from Sweden in NEJM:
1) Out of 1,951,905 children age 1-16, March 1–June 30: 15 ICU visits, 0 deaths fr Covid

2) Teachers had NO higher ICU visit than other professions despite lower schools open FULL TIME and NO MASK mandate


Interesting data that shows further evidence schools should be open.

Oh, and the data points out that teachers were 57% less likely to need intensive care than other working adults.

 

Some more context for that 4100 dead Americans, Hurricane Maria only killed 3095 Americans.

 

No data on teachers or parents dying after exposure to infected students?

 

I'm sure different studies will focus on that. But 57% less ICU admissions is a very good number. Such a huge disaster of a policy to keep schools closed. Teachers Unions have no interest in children whatsoever. Embarrassing.

That sounds like a pretty legit serious complication. Vaccines are known to cause autoimmune conditions, most famously GBS. What he had sounds like ITP, an autoimmune condition where your own immune system attacks the platelets causing severe thrombocytopenia.
