As of October the excess deaths were around 280k. I can't find good info about the current number so it makes complete sense that our current death total is not an over-estimation.

Also as @exiledgator stated the percentage matches up with the number of people who get it regardless of any vaccine.

I guess we can just call any death in the US that is questionable a Covid death because that's what some people want..."indirectly"...

    To anybody interested in suicide
Yes, if suicides are basically flat, some areas would see increases while other areas would see decreases. The reason that you are relying on smaller sample areas, with more variance, instead of states, with less variance, is that the statewide data released thus far in Massachusetts, New Mexico, Oregon, and Washington disputes your notions. You are focusing on the noise to avoid the signal. I don't need to engage in such a strategy, but if I did, I could easily engage in the same level of debate that you are here, by saying suicides are down by pointing to suicides in Clark County (Las Vegas), Nevada.

    No idea.

Why do you suppose the Army suicide rate is up so much?

U.S. Army Saw Rise in Suicides as Covid-19 Pandemic Locked Down Nation

And Portland had a 41% increase in suicide threats so a logical assumption is suicide rates will increase in Portland

Portland police note 41% increase in suicide threats compared to 2019

Suicide Attempts Among Children Skyrocket Amid Pandemic

So far in 2020, 192 kids have been admitted to Cook Children’s for attempting suicide. Compare that to the same time period in 2015 when the hospital saw 88 patients - less than half of the current statistics.

No kidding. The answer to the question is 2022.

The military as a whole is up 3.6% in the first two quarters. That is very much in-line with the increases that have been occuring. Again, why are you focusing on subsets (Army), when we have data from broader categories (Military).

Military suicides spiked during the early months of the coronavirus pandemic

I already showed you the Oregon numbers. Do you think that they don't include numbers from Portland? Why would we focus on suicidal threats at a city-level when we already have the suicide figures at the state level there?

So now you are going into subpopulations of subpopulations and utilizing a related variable to argue with stats showing broader categories with the variable of interest?

Actually results of Suicide deaths will be available in 2021. 6 month lag. Keep hoping schools stay closed sport. That hill you died on really is lonely now. Just you and non science politicians left on the hill.

It's good to see the liberal blue stronghold of California subdue this virus like it's Gavin Newsom's bitch with all these lock downs, orders and such. A model for the rest of the country to follow. Would probably be 0 spread there if those crazy Trump supporters in the northern counties would wear their masks.

Wrong again. The federal statistics on causes of death have only been updated through 2018. If they were 6 months delayed, they would have updated through at least Q1 2020 at this point.

WISQARS Leading Causes of Death Reports

Such a strange form of ego protection. You are trying to change the topic to a topic on which you feel more comfortable to keep your ego from being deflated. Given that we aren't discussing that topic and you always go back when people call you out regardless of the topic, it is a bit sad.

I am sorry that the fact that the statewide data threatens your theories apparently bothers you enough that you think it is appropriate to bet on the number of people that commit suicides like it was a roll of dice or a sporting event. I would suggest taking a deep look into yourself as to how you got to this point, but I recognize that it would be counter-productive given that you are in full out defense mode right now. So I hope you can deal with whatever it is that brought you to that stage in life better.

Intravenous bleach would probably work better than what California is doing currently.

I have mostly stayed out of this thread/arg. Are you arguing that shutdowns etc are causing a rise in suicides? If so, the problem is that we don't know nor will we know what the suicide rate would be during covid with no lockdown & no closures. Making comparisons to non-covid periods is pretty faulty analysis.

I simply stated the lockdowns around the country and the economic burden and general isolation would cause an increase in suicides this year compared to last year. Others are adamant that there won’t be.

that's plausible, but not testable. it is also possible that the economy would be worse without the lockdowns & that suicides would be greater.
