Despite the fact you didn't have the courtesy of asking me why I think hotspots could use it the most, I'll tell you. Hospital capacity is correlated with population. The per capita of cases in the "hot states" are 2 to 4 times more than some of coastal states. Therefore, those areas are the most at risk of overwhelmed hospitals and rationed care. Which leads to greater death rates for covid and other medical emergencies in the area. So it seems that applying a limited resource, like this pill, would be best served there. And that's just my opinion. The medical professionals on this board may have different view.

No, no I don’t care. As I’ve pointed out numerous times, every anti mask study uses terms like “marginally effective” or “not as effective as believed”. You interpret that as a waste of time, I interpret those phrases as “better than nothing”. No ones believes they’re 100% effective, but no barrier cannot possibly be more effective than any barrier, regardless of what you choose to believe. I will continue wearing the mask because it’s easy and stupid not to, I do not care what studies you post. I’ll opt for the more effective option even if only marginal or less than originally believed. It’s still better than nothing no matter how you spin it.

Of course it will work, because by then, over half the population (at least) will have been vaccinated. The vaccine is coming, in like a week. They're not going to reject Pfizer's application. And so once front line workers, elderly have been vaccinated up, the general population will be and all this will happen fairly rapidly. A 100 days into Biden's administration puts us at May 1st (roughly), 2021. So the vaccine will have had 5 and a half months to be distributed to the public by then. That's why Biden is saying 100 days. He could have just left the days part open, but he's carving out a way to take credit for something that is utterly meaningless. Anyone who's refusing to wear a mask today isn't going to start wearing one just because Joe Biden asked them to, lol. And again (I know you know all of this by the way, so this post is not directed at you @gator95), it's not as if a majority of the American public aren't already wearing masks. They are and they don't work, hence the explosion in new cases numbers that shows no signs of abating.

Yep. It’s just for show. Its theater. But don’t worry, the masks work crowd will be along shortly to show “models” that show they work and ignore the largest RCT study to date on mask effectiveness.

 

This study looks at the effectiveness of cloth masks at preventing the wearer from becoming infected. The benefit of cloth masks is that it limits the spread of airborne viruses from those who are sick. When the virus leaves a host, it is attached to a water droplet which is large enough to be stopped by a cloth mask. When the water droplet evaporates the airborne virus is too small to be stopped by a cloth mask.

My mask protects you, your mask protects me. Love your neighbor, wear a mask.

 

Yeah, that’s not even close to what happened. Google the word limited, google the word none. Compare results and come back and tell me what you found.

People stupid enough to believe masks are just for show is why around 3000 people a day are dying of covid in this country.
I get it, it is tough not being a selfish a##hole when that is how you have been all your life. I realize it is a personal affront to wear a mask for 10 seconds while you pick up your to go order and that is too large a sacrifice.

 

Actually, you are wrong in a number of respects. First, as usual, and as pointed out by other posters, you are ignoring the limits of the study and are arguing that it reaches a conclusion you want it to support, not the findings that the study actually reached.

Second, and critically, two keys to scientific analysis are replication and the meta analysis across all studies. In this case, the Danish study is not replicated and, as I will point out in a moment, studies after the Danish study support the efficacy of masks and were relied on by the CDC. And, in JAMA, they discussed the meta analysis.

This review included two case studies out today, one from JAMA, showing that adherence to universal masking policies reduced SARS-CoV-2 transmission within a Boston hospital system, and one from CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), showing that wearing a mask prevented the spread of infection from two hair stylists to their customers in Missouri.

@gator95 , Honest, serious question here. No need for trolling, snarky responses. What is your goal in constantly attempting to dissuade people from wearing masks. What do you wish to accomplish? If they don’t work, so what?

 

I think if masks worked we wouldn’t have the spread rate we currently have and have had for 9 months. Same with Europe. Masks “might” help a super small percentage like 1-2% like the Danish study shows but it’s all for theater. But I think it’s downright dumb to think masks work like people think. People in this thread are making excuse after excuse to ignore the largest best mask study in the world because they didn’t like the results. It’s comical. I can tell you if the biggest best mask study showed masks worked effectively I’d change my tune. I still wear a mask where required but when I visit my mom in a nursing home I think the bigger thing is to maintain social distancing. My question is why wouldn’t people who say they follow science don’t follow the biggest RCT study in the world? That’s the bigger question.

 

I see people with clear face shields occasionally. No mask.

I’ve answered your question multiple times, you dodged mine. I didn’t ask if you think they’re effective, we all know that answer. I asked why dissuade people who feel more comfortable wearing them. What do you gain? I’ll humor you and agree that they’re 1-2% effective, is that not more than 0?
