I even heard the announces say that Miami had their starters in the game when Lagway came in the second time… when we scored.

They didn't pull Ward until a minute or 2 left in the game.

Actually on the Lagway scoring drive, the announcers specifically mentioned several times that Lagway was doing that vs. The 1st team Defense. In fact the majority of miami's 1st team offense was still out there too. Not sure I want Lagway to be the full time starter just yet but then again I'm not sure I don't want him to either. Lol

That defense gave up a ton of points to a crappy Miami team. That is a concern.

The announcers pointed out that Miami was still not substituting when we got the late TD.

I’m surprised at the result. So quickly we change. Don’t forget we’ve been in this spot. I put Lag as well but Mertz it he can play deserves better. My mind says Lag, my heart says SOS style drive switches until one pulls away. That lead so the Johnson/Brandise 97 game (one of the best Swamp games of all time). Who knows? I hope he’s okay anyway.

Doesn't matter a bunch imo. The O line is still Swiss cheese and Napier's play calling and playbook is still what it is..

Do whatever it takes to keep Lagway for our next head coach.

Napier has nothing to lose anymore, might as well go down swinging with Lagway.

I voted that if Mertz is healthy, he should start. My brain tells me he gives us the best chance to win.

My eyes and the last two seasons tell me that Lagway has a better chance of disguising how comically bad Napier is at calling games.

A mobile qb is always better when you oline is bad and ours is just plain bad. Mertz can’t outrun all the guys pouring in the pocket so he has no chance. We are going to face several good defensive fronts too so it’ll happen almost weekly. They’ve got to get bigtime help up front for Lagway. Who wants to play behind that.

What’s the best play call with defenders using your line as a turnstile.

I'm watching the replay. When Boardingham caught a pass, out at the 1, 2:18:05, Jesse Palmer said: "What's been impressive with DJ Lagway here...He's leading what's looked like the best drive of the game, against Miami's first team defense."

Joe then said: "That's a great point."

Jesse: "Miami's not subbed out a lot of their players."

We don't need a QB who is a runner, we need a QB who is mobile and can buy time against the rush. That's what Cam Ward did all night. That's what Travis Hunter did last year. Lagway can do that, Mertz can't.
The big mistake was made when we took Mertz in the portal, when so many mobile QB's where available.
I've been supporting CBN all along. My perspective to criticism isn't so great, but I can see now that if CBN had Barry Sanders or Emmitt Smith on the bench, he would still play Montrell. I think it's the same with Mertz. It's really disappointing in my opinion.
BTW, i think when Lagway came in Callaway was calling plays, hence the crisp passing plays. which Lagway executed really well.

UF was the team subbing guys out at the time - at least on the lines. If to look at the O line for DJ’s drives….outside of Slaughter, it was the back up o linemen - Manuel, Lovett, BCD, etc.

you are correct, I went back and watched myself and looked up the players on the depth chart. Mea culpa, I didn't hear the announcers say that.

Thought experiment: swap Ward and Mertz, what's the score? (Give them both a full offseason with their new team.)

I'm tempted to say "not much", because the line play was so imbalanced. But maybe not nothin'. I'll go with 17 point swing.
