No, I’m holding him accountable for running the program off the rails when he was here. He stated in his own words that the program was broken. He broke it and then went out and publicly smeared the brand. As far as I’m concerned, he should remain out of any UF honors until someone has repaired the damage caused by the manner in which he departed. He inherited a loaded roster and a shiny brand. Think of it like committing a crime and serving time. His sentence is until posthumously awarded or earlier because the damages have been completely reversed. As long as the tarnish remains, he gets nada. Actions and words have consequences. Again, it is just how I feel, you’re more than welcome to put his picture on your walls.

Yep, Spurrier won 1 NC in 12 years with awesome talent, why would we suddenly win more? because UT and fsu were down? players aren't robots, a lot of Zook's guys didn't take to Meyer, it's a big assumption they would have taken to Spurrier and everything would have been roses.

Also, coaches going back a 2nd time almost never works out for anyone, they are coaching against a ghost.

 

Right. We've only seen three B2B champions in the last 70-ish years but the guy thinking it "most likely" would have happened if Spurrier came back isn't the one clouded by his feelings. Got it.

 

Go back to your stats all you want. Doesn’t the facts that the roster was loaded and he was the best X’s and O’s coach ever. Where in your stats have those stars lined up like that? I erroneously confused 2004 In my prior post. So we can be fairly sure that we would have taken Texas in 05 even with Vince Young there.

That would be a non-standard and bizarre requirement for entry into either establishment.

 

In order for this theory to have merit, one would have to argue that all of Spurrier's previous teams had less talent and thus is the reason why he had not been able to win B2B previously. That is where you lose me.

 

He is accountable to ANY degree for as long as a player he recruited is on the roster. After that, it is the failings of the following coaches and admin. I would argue the Muschamp 3 yards and a cloud of dust was much more detrimental to the UF brand than anything Meyer did. That crap was already in the rearview when he took over.

That’s not my comp point. I’m looking at the roster we had in 05 and 06, along with his ability to coach and compare that to the rest of the top teams that year. I believe that it probably would have happened.

One thing is for sure; the HBC would not have wasted the first half of the 05 season trying to figure out whether Leak was a runner or not like Mullen and Meyer did.

 

One thing to keep in mind in these alternative scenarios. If Spurrier were the coach in that timeframe, Tim Tebow most likely becomes a Bammer.

 

Spurrier's Fun and Gun is why I'm a gator fan. Meyer, IMO, took it to even another level of must watch football. He brought in many of my favorite players. Harvin, Tebow, Spikes, AH (at the time), Demps, Wright, Nelson, Haden, Dunlap, Pouncey, Gillislee ETC. Absolutely deserving CFHoF.

 

Wait, 05 and 06? So, a QB and almost an entire roster that Ron Zook recruited is the basis for this argument? I'm sorry but you have lost the plot on this one. If there is ANYTHING Ron Zook did well, it was recruiting. If we are going to go this route then Meyer, based on his actual achievements, already has 2 NC's by the end of 06 if he is hired in Ron Zook's place. What a fun thought experiment this becomes. Does the program go off the rails after 5 years with a Heisman TT leading it, probably not.

 

To be fair, a lot of UF fans try to mentally block out that year because of what happened in Arizona.
