Trump knew that selfie-taking eccentrics would walk into the Capitol and put their feet on Nancy Pelosi’s desk. He KNEW!
Damn. Link's not working. Can you re-post so I can chip in to this most urgent cause for our nation's integrity?
If Trump had walked to the capital himself and shot a few people he would still be the GOPs candidate. The GOP failed America when they didnt impeach him in his last days for the coup. Instead, now they gaslight and laugh it off like it was a peaceful demonstration that just got out of hand. Trump announced on twitter for everyone to read his direction to Mike Pence to throw out votes and put the presidency in a constitutional crisis. I will grant you that Colorado's one off isnt particularly helpful but it was the utter cowardice of the GOP that has led us to deal with an insurective candidate. I am astounded.
It doesn't really matter whether anyone thinks or feels like they know Trump was part of the so call insurrection, it must be proven. If there is so much evidence, why hasn't he been charged? Jack Smith is not afraid to charge for about anything and Trump has 91 indictments against him and not a single one mentions insurrection. If this is allowed to happen then you can bet, you will see red states trying to bump Biden off the ballot for not upholding the constitution by securing the border. It doesn't matter how you feel about it and that he is upholding the constitution because some don't feel like he is. This is a terrible precedent to set and will embolden even more to feel that the left is trying to completely politicize the courts. This will backfire for democracy, one way or another. All the left that is claiming Trump will bring down democracy while at the same time bringing it down.
Since conservatives love guns, let me put it in an analogy you’ll understand: Trump may have not fired the gun, but he gave them the ammo and the weapon needed to carry out the act when he spoke to his supporters that day. And since the majority of his supporters are not jobs who can’t critically think for themselves, of course they took him literally and attacked the capital. He’s 100% responsible.
There is no insurrection crime on the books. It's called conspiracy to defraud the United States. And Trump is being charged for it, along with conspiracy against the rights of citizens, obstruction of an official proceeding, and witness tampering.
First, as I said above, ignore the advocacy, ignore the summations. Just read the actual documents - the internal memos and correspondence. Then decide for yourself whether Trump was truthful about his claims that democracy was “stolen.” Second, and while less important, your premise above is flawed. There were several Republicans on the Committee (their party disowned them for participating, but that’s another story). Moreover, the majority of the Republicans flat-out refused to participate, and then sanctioned and ostracized those that did. The pay can’t turn their back in the proceedings, and then cry foul for not participating.
I can't stand Trump. I do not want him to win. I do not want him to run. I would in no circumstance vote for him. This is an outrage. All four should be impeached. Trump has not been convicted of the crime. You cannot assume his guilt. I grew up watching westerns. You have to have a trial BEFORE you hang him. I knew that was important when I was six years old.
But the decision went out of its way to be politically agnostic. If you read the decision, it’s crystal clear the judges hated having to write it, but it is what they concluded the law required. While I don’t agree with their conclusions, it was not a decision written to favor Biden (who bluntly won’t need the Colorado Court to take Colorado).
And THIS is what I was inferring when I suggested to the deniers to read the internal memos and make their own conclusions. Your point is nit opinion, is it uncontroverted fact based on the internal Trump-Team documents.
Actually, the Colorado SC did not “decide” that Trump engaged in insurrection. The underlying trial court, following a 5 day trial, made that factual determination (but still ruled that Trump could stay on the ballot). The Colorado Supreme Court did not disturb the trial court’s factual findings, and limited its analysis to questions of law.
But the “finger-pointing to the media”argument by the MAGA is such hypocrisy. MAGA followers absorb the entirety of their arguments from the right-wing media. By their very admission, they flat out refuse to look at the actual documentary evidence collected the January 6 Committee, refuse to believe a syllable of the legion of court case-allegations (state and federal, civil and criminal, liable or not). And rather than independently review evidence to make up their own minds, they double-speak that everyone else is poisoned by “the media”
This Colorado decision will help, not hurt Trump once the SC overturns it. It will be used as ammo for Trump. Don’t think it will matter in Colorado but it’s a possibility in other states. Trump’s whole Schlick now is “woah is me look at what they are doing to me.” “You will be next if you don’t elect me as your president”.
People shouldn't worry. I predict that with the first conviction and facing a prison sentence, Trump will leave the country. He will be welcome in Russia or North Korea. Putin and Kim Jong Un are his kind of people. In fact he and Kim, as we know, are in love. Someday their love will be immortalized in a book or movie, "Him and Kim."
Haha, the projection here is hilarious. You believe whatever you need to believe to avoid cognitive dissonance. You are the most propagandized poster here. I read the speech. A whole lot of violent imagery. Just like usual for Trump. You will excuse Trump because you want to believe that you aren't a person voting for a guy who would encourage political violence. Often. But you are. So you need to try to change that reality.
Can you point out where the border is mentioned in the Constitution? I'll give you a hint: it isn't. Because when the Constitution was written, we actually had open borders. We didn't spend billions trying to stop people from coming here.
This end result happened due to a lawsuit brought by 4 republicans. The 14th amendment does not mention a necessary conviction at all.
