OH he'll be comfy for a bit but they expect a coach who can win titles. Maybe he will but it's a lotta hoping in this hire but what else are they going to do?
Interview went like this... DM: I'd love to be head coach here! AD: You'll need to recruit DM: Thanks anyway.
Go with your gut and hire your first choice. Experienced coach who turned around a floundering (for decades and decades) program, whose name is well known in your region, had success (as DC) at your rival, etc. Elko is just a younger, more "hypey", less proven version of Stoops. Hey, maybe they'll get lightning in a bottle. Or maybe they'll get lumps of coal, which would be well deserved for a program dumb enough to cave to moron fans.
Suits me, I can go back to rooting for them against most teams. Heard Dabo might be a consideration, which would have kept them on the scum level.
Oklahoma now has an opening for a OC. Don’t be surprised if Brent Venables quickly taps someone he’s very familiar with and coached with at Clemson, Jeff Scott. Seems like a slam dunk hire. OU will pay big $$$$ for a OC too, unlike UF.
I really do not get what your agenda is here, but you clearly have one. Stoops has a losing record in SEC play. Kentucky has never even sniffed a championship under him. Maybe you are bad at current events, but ATM is in the SEC. Why would they want to hire a proven loser in the SEC as their coach? Elko is winning at Duke. He was a very popular DC at ATM, and has contacts there and for in state recruiting. I would have hired him in a nano second over that loser Stoops and his dirty football teams.
aTm didn’t break the bank in hiring Elko, a far cry from what Jimbo got. 6yrs & $42mil, $7mil per, with some hefty incentives. $11mil staff poll. Mike Elko contract, salary: Deal for new Texas A&M coach heavy on incentives for postseason success
Syracuse targets Fran Brown: Georgia DB coach, ace recruiter emerges as new favorite for Orange, per report
A good indication you have a championship caliber staff. Other schools want to hire your coordinators to be their HC Take a hint BN.
Interesting that they want the DB coach not Muschamp the DC, the perfect coordinators to have on staff are ones that no sane school would ever make head coach again.
Yeah, agenda: Dumb fans. They're the same f-ing guy. Elko wouldn't do any better at KY and you know it. Hope they burn.
Mark Stoops was the DC at Florida State after being the DC at Arizona which was preceded by his stint as a DB coach at Miami. I guess he did spend a year in Houston - 23 years ago. You just said another poster was stupid and lacked awareness, but completely glossed over the fact that Elko was the DC at Texas A&M, was very popular before he left for a head coach position. Of course they went after a coach they know and like and who has a history at the program, not sure why anyone would consider that to be a stupid choice. They already tried hiring a big-name head coach with a national championship under his belt and it was a complete failure. UF hired a coach from the same second-tier school who had a history at UF and last time I checked our stadium is named after him.
Eh I like Elko over Stoops, Elko has more upside, younger, coached there before, Stoops has been at KY for 11 years, to me he is what he is.
Keyword here is "Kentucky". Look at their history before he coached them...they were trash. He's got them competing now. But if I were Stoops, I'd stay put. They love him there and he's still making more than Elko.
Its funny how every Tom, Dick, and Harry become "ace" recruiters if they are lucky enough to land at UGa.
"Competing" against who? Us? Our teams have sucked for years now, sadly. Stoops hasn't won squat against the SEC powers during his tenure at Kentucky, and never will, based on his history. And Stoops didn't turn down ATM, despite all of his babbling about how much he loves Kentucky. ATM poured him out.
