College Athletes Are Cashing In on the NCAA’s New Rules

 

As someone who follows the team but not super close, what the rundown on this years squad? Anyone have a breakdown of all 4 events and who they think will be our top Gators in each event? Specifically what we are looking at with the newcomers. Do we have another Wong coming in?

 

I get more enjoyment participating on the Diamond Gators and "other sports" forums where the discussion is generally about highly ranked teams, very successful coaches and great trouble free athletes

 

So far, I am pleased with the team attitude of the new gymnasts. We will see how it plays out, but I am optimistic.

 

College Gym News released their Top 36 on Nov 25th. Their methodology is simple. Each editor that wanted to participate submitted their top 36 teams for the 2022 season. Lists were submitted privately and no discussion was allowed beforehand to be able to produce as unbiased and accurate a ranking as possible. They then assigned a numerical value to each place, with each editor’s first-place team earning 36 points, second place taking 35 points and so on through No. 36. Each team’s points were then added up to determine the overall order.

The top 36, the point totals and the amount of first-place votes where applicable can be found below, as well as additional teams that earned points but did not make the top 36:

Toughest Lineups for Freshmen to Crack


Between historically strong lineups and retaining last season’s class of seniors, some lineups will definitely be harder to break into than others. While we won’t know for sure until Week 1 of competition, some team’s returners have laid down the gauntlet for freshmen and coaches alike. Below are some top picks for the hardest lineups to break into in 2023.



Beam: Florida

If Cal’s previously mentioned bars lineup has an embarrassment of riches, we don’t have any words left for Florida’s beam depth. Last season head coach Jenny Rowland rotated nine athletes in and out of six spots, with the six who were in long enough to have NQS scores all registering 9.900-plus. A healthy Ellie Lazzari (and her NQS of 9.956 from 2021) will challenge for the top six. Then there’s the question of how four former elites fit in: Rachel Baumann, Kayla DiCello, Morgan Hurd and Victoria Nguyen. How will Rowland slot five gymnasts into two spots opened from Megan Skaggs and Alyssa Baumann, and how many second chances are there room for come competition?

Each Top 8 Team’s Biggest Problem
The season is less than a month away! We’ve seen intrasquad and training footage, tracked injuries and scoured social media to get a sense of where teams are heading into next year. With just weeks to go to Week 1, we took a look at the biggest problem each team in nationals-qualifying position from our preseason poll is facing, plus a few teams outside the top eight that have big years coming.

No. 2 Florida: An Embarrassment of Riches
Try to pick the Florida lineups. It’s impossible. Former National Team members will be on the proverbial bench. Of course, this could be a good problem to have, but it could also mean that it’s very challenging for Jenny Rowland to find her highest-potential top six.

See post #93. I was going to post that Jenny will probably have 8 to 10 gymnasts that she could select from to fill each of the six positions for each apparatus without losing any scoring potential. And I’m not talking about the same 8 to 10 for each apparatus. We are crazy deep with new additions, including recruits and transfers and ladies returning from injuries.
