    Honda Sports Award Winner

    Image description
University of Florida's Trinity Thomas is named gymnastics' Honda Award winner for the second consecutive year. The honor is given annually to the nation's top collegiate female athlete in 12 different sports. Thomas is the first since 1998 to earn gymnastics' Honda Award in consecutive seasons. She is the fifth Gator to receive the honor - Ann Woods (1982), Kytra Hunter (2012, 2015), Bridget Sloan (2013, 2016), Alex McMurtry (2017) and Thomas (2022, 2023).

I’m sure she’d trade this in a second for a ring for her teammates but it’s a well deserved honor for the greatest college gymnast of all time.

Next year will likely be our least talented year in a really long time. No fault of the staff or anything (in fact in a way it’s the opposite), but it’s a good year for us to be hosting regionals.
Need Hurd to come around and get McKusker on more events hopefully.

Agree, but I'm super happy for the ladies that are going for their dreams. Our program will be fine

Morgan Hurd will have had 2 years to recover so I agree with the doubt, but wouldn't it be great if she fully recovers and is able to participate in the all-around at a high level? Physically she looks good. Hopefully, she will be laser focused on gymnastics in the 24-25 year as she could be a huge difference maker.

Yeah....I also wonder about focus, has to be tough after being at the top internationally. If Hurd and McCusker could return to the form of their glory days it would be huge

Riley McCusker is a different story. Her chronic ankle injury has kept her to bars and beam, but, if the ankle allows, she is capable of being an outstanding all-arounder. Resolving her past disputes with her elite coach has her mind in the right place to excel with UF over her last 2 years. It'll be interesting to see if she can add floor and/or beam.

Good to have a portal transfer or grad transfer this year

With 6 incoming and 7 outgoing, there should be a slot available for an experienced high performance grad transfer. With DiCello stating she is definitely returning after Paris Olympics 24, UF may not be able to bring in a multi-year transfer. It's really hard to know though as it isn't transparent as to who is on scholarship. Chloi Clark was awarded a scholarship for 23 so she may also be awarded one for 24 as well. I'm not sure when the transfer season ends, but we will know long before the 24/25 school year.

Seems like a case where a 1 year rental would be optimal

How the gymnastics transfer portal works:

The Transfer Portal: How It Works and How to Normalize It in Gymnastics - College Gym News

This year, any gymnast can enter the transfer portal by May 19 without the consequence of sitting out at their new destination. May 19 is only the deadline for entering the portal. Expedited official visits and decisions come later.

    Tracking Transfers:

Tracking 2023-24 Transfers - College Gym News

There are now 3 Utah gymnasts in the portal with the third one entering the portal yesterday.

This is the third Utah gymnast to enter the portal:

Sage Thompson - Gymnastics - University of Utah Athletics (utahutes.com)

There is speculation on the reddit gymnastics site of interest in UF by her mother. Where there is smoke, might there be fire? Sage is a bars specialist but is capable of doing all-around. She scored 9.9375 in the national championship final. She wants to land where she can break into more event lineups. She will be a junior in the 2023/24 school year.

Score Sheet from Pan Am tryouts:

    Score Sheets(26).xlsx - Read-Only (usagym.org)

Some awfully good gymnasts chose not to compete. It's like the US is sending their B team to the Pan American Games later this month.

    The 2023 Pan Am Team:

Women's senior team named for 2023 Pan American Championships • USA Gymnastics

Leanne Wong and Skye Blakely were on the star-studded list of those who did not submit to the tryout judging. Shilese Jones, hopefully a 2024/25 Gator although not holding my breath, also did not submit to the judging.

    Schoenherr Internet Transfer Speculation:

Savannah Schoenherr has apparently been sighted in Los Angeles. There is speculation that Savannah could end up at UCLA.
