You don't need to be a snob or asshole to appreciate art.

Inasmuch as I have aided others in steering my own thread off topic, there isn't one.

Well to be fair, I responded to a poster claiming that art is for "suckers and libbies." I suggested that art is basically for all. That's not a matter of snobbery. If I'm an a$$hole about it, so be it. It's my livelihood and I'm passionate about it.

I wasn't calling you an a**hole by any means. I was just saying the regular person can learn about art without all the accouterment.

I agree. The arts are only as pretentious as the appreciator wants them to be. Don't want accouterment? Hang out at a jazz dive or visit a museum that suits your tastes. Or better yet, take guitar/piano lessons or create your own visual art.

Your topic needed a good derailment ;). What are your thoughts on modal jazz vs. the stylings of hard bop?

I really like music & sex; guess I’d take the hard bop over the music though.

You made a very nice response to me. I don’t get art, but I love certain kinds of music.

I haven't the slightest idea. I just know what I like when I hear it.

You don't have to get it to appreciate it and getting it does not make one a sucker or a libbie. ;)

But "everyone" isnt good with it snd it wasnt their fanbase calling for it.

A little secret no one is talking about is how bad attendance has become in Cleveland. They are almost 30% below the pre pandemic level. They are getting Tampa Bay like attendance, but with a beautiful downtown stadium in the middle of their population. (A luxury the Rays dont currently have).

    Something has happened.

I don't think the woke thing is the issue, but the identity change could be.

Imagine if the Gators suddenly became the Rockets or something like that.

People relate to team identity and marketing within a community. Right or wrong the Tribe was their team and a huge part of their culture in Cleveland. It will take a while to build a new culture.

You cant market one way for 80 years and then just have no change in corporate response when that changes overnight.

A similar issue had happened in Washington with attendance. They once had a 10 year waiting list for season tickets... Even during bad times... Now they are basically Jacksonville attendance wise (30th in the league)

Eventually people will be okay with it. The new name is actually more “Cleveland” than their former name. The OP is just the typical “woke” bitching.

Maybe, but there is no guarantee that people will be OK with it. Lost eyeballs and dollars do not always return. Especially in a much more competitive entertainment world.

This has clearly hurt fan interest and connection.

They are winning. They are division champs. I think people really connect with nicknames.

Again. Change Gators to Rockets and you would see a decline in attendance and merch sales overnight.
