I mean, i get that, but thats on our guys... Not an indictment of him. Napper is gonna fix that problem.
I get that, but he can still be honest about the fact that huge money is likely a bad idea for a young kid. Many who have had no financial guidance and come from tough financial backgrounds. I believe (if i am not mistaken) that he just wanted pay to be deferred until the player gets their degree (ie, a little more mature with some guidance). No amount of money makes him ineligible to have that opinion.
Thump the bible is such a degrading term. But not shocked. Take that crap to toohot. When he says in Gods image, he is talking about specific ethical and character traits. But sure, he out recruited us for a decade so lets hate him. It's stupid if he was our guy we would build a statue and put his name on a building somewhere. Its a bad look. I am kore interested in Billy beating his brains out 9n the trail currently and jot looking for dumb reasons to justify his being better than our guys previously. The comments in this thread about him sucking without Venables are just false. He had them on a sharp upward arc before and had a better season after BV left. He is due a bad year. Spurrier had them. Urban had them. It happens. We sound like our rival fanbases.
He’s selling a football program, not a membership to his congregation. The quote was cringeworthy and he rightfully got dragged for being the cornball he is.
Much of Dabo's quotes about NIL date back a decade or so. His current stance is much different: Clemson announced on Wednesday that they’d just opened the Allen N. Reeves Clemson Athletics Branding Institute as the “first dedicated facility for student-athlete branding and education”… that will help players get paid. “We’re going to call it The CAB because what does a cab do? It gives you a lift to your destination,” Swinney said. “But guess what, you’ve gotta pay the fare. We can’t do it for you. You’ve got to do the work. I’m really excited about it because it’s a living, breathing space where our guys know they can go for expertise. “If you’re injured, you go to the training room. If you want to get stronger, you go to the weight room. This was an opportunity for our guys to know that if they want help with branding and sponsorship and NIL and tax education and finances and all of these very real-world issues, you go to The CAB where we have a dedicated space with people ready to help them.” Clemson Athletics Branding Institute
Yeah. Too hot man... And calling a person discussing their faith "cringe" is an insulting opinion not shared by millions of people so who cares what you think?
The ACC back then was the worst power 5 conference in the nation, but he did okay... even with the occasional butt stomping Clemson received, from a lesser team, from time to time. It wasn't until to stole Venables that his defense made the big leap into being consistently good to great. My point is Dabo does not have that talented DC anymore and he and Clemson will show more signs of "mortality" to far lesser teams like Miami. That is all Dabo is not invincible and will start to lose to less talented teams more often. It's the same thing that has started to happen to Saban without the best coordinators to keep that brand on top. Dabo is still a great coach, but it takes more than just one man to get it done in college football.
I am not wrong about Clemson getting far better when Dabo got Brent Venables to come to Clemson from Oklahoma. I am not wrong to say that Dabo and Clemson are a better talent than Miami, and Clemson had no business losing to that team. I am not wrong about Clemson being more beatable without Brent Venables calling the defense for Dabo. But what I am NOT saying is the Dabo in not a good coach anymore. He will recruit, and he will win, but he will not be as good as he was with Brent Venables at his side.
I want to say and point out one thing. I have never thought any less or more of a coach that has the personal life with GOD. That is not why I dislike him. I don't dislike him as a person or a man, but as a coach that steals away talent from Gainesville... That is all I am saying.
I didn’t say him addressing his faith was cringe. I said the quote was cringe, which it was. Like I said I know why you have a soft spot for Dabo since he’s got the “aw shucks, I’m just here for religion and football guys!” schtick routine down pat but to me he’s just another Bobby Bowden but Bobby was much less cornier.
Steal talent from Gainesville- LOL. when Deshaun Watson and TL played for Clemson did Dabo steal from Athens? I would say yes. IMO that helped the Gators. As an FYI- Spiller played from 06-09. I'm going to say we still did ok in those years without Spiller. So really that didn't hurt us at all. Finally- Dabo was the one responsible for Jimbo leaving FSU. (If you haven't read the story of Jimbo leaving FSU you should.) AGain, IMO that helped us. So Dabo hurt UGA by taking TL and Watson from UGA. He hurt FSU by beating FSU many years and causing Jimbo to leave. I think he has helped us- not hurt.
I like Clemson and Dabo. And I will say you are NOT wrong on any of these 4 points. Venables was a great add. CBN needs to find his Venables.
I know he’s here, can just tell, but thankfully I don’t have to see that silly fool. You boys will only get muddy and frustrated wrestling with that inept clown.
So i guess I would ask, why is your angst aimed at him for doing his job and not at Muschamp, McElwain and Mullen for not?
Sure, but most coaches reached the same realization. Again, many of the actual quotes attributed to Dabo on paying players are very old quotes
I feel the same about every coach that steals Florida talent... Lol.. I despise Kirby Smart and several other coaches for that same reason. But honestly... I was just more disappointed Dabo lost to scUM. I don't like anything about Miami and their cesspool of fans.
So... he's a good coach and made some uncharacteristically bad mistakes? He's too experienced to make first or second year coaching mistakes. Lol...
