I was wondering about the shelf life of “Kids don’t care about your W-L record. They only see an opportunity to play right away.”
There is still time for Napier. But there's only so long You can go with everything going against you. He's in a pickle no doubt
That time is basically the 2024 season, especially the first 7 games. Failure to hold serve at home with those equals another losing season, a feat no coach at UF has accomplished since the 1940s. At that point you've got to cut your losses (no pun intended), and find new leadership, AD included.
Napier is in deep crap. Deep crap. I don’t care if Saban was on the sideline for us, that schedule is absolutely brutal next year and no coach, including Saban, would get this team to a winning record. Now looking at the recruiting, and it would be a miracle if he won 5 games next year. Defense is gonna get thrashed, both lines are bad, so Mertz/Lagway better put up 50 a game.
He’s storming the beaches of Normandy in the nude with a water pistol. It’s technically not over, but unless Lagway both signs and is Superman next fall, I think we all know how this ends.
Napier has shown us what he can do. He obviously cannot extract every drop of production out of inferior talent, which means in order to compete in the SEC he needs better talent than what we have, and comparable to UGA and Bama. Can't win without the talent, can't get the talent without winning. Sorry Gators, there is nothing in Billy's resume that convinces me he is the right person for this job.
Not finishing in the top 10 would be an absolute disaster. Literally the one thing Napier had going on was recruiting. Without that not many positives.
This recruting class is imploding. We have NOTHING to hang our hat on anymore. Even darker days ahead for this program.
If I'm Scott Stricklin, I'm looking for a new head football coach now. Doesn't mean you fire Napier now, but you prepare yourself for the almost inevitable next season so you're not caught with your pants down.
