There's a link on Drudge about it, and I happened to see it on YouTube or X. Can't recall if I'm allowed to post a link to an article or the video since there is bad language. The young lady's name is Baylen Dupree. She said that she is one of the 10% of people with Tourette’s for whom it manifests with at least some level of vulgarity. I'd previously seen her on Instagram reels and wondered if she was embellishing or exaggerating her condition, but I then felt guilty about even questioning it. It's kinda tough to watch her IMO, but there's also some humor in it. You can see Chris laughing several times when she's cussing and flipping him off. I think he was trying to figure out if his laughter was appropriate. He gave her a lot of credit for being willing to talk about it and put herself out there. Have any of you known someone with Tourette’s? Did they get upset if people found the humor in it or I wonder if that makes it easier for them?
I have known a few people with Tourette's although in their cases it's only been manifested by tics never spontaneous outbursts of profanity.
Fraternity brother of mine had Tourette’s. Not the cursing version, he just had a really bad and uncontrollable head and neck twitch that acted up several times per hour. He was also the qb on the fraternity flag football team and several times per season he would twitch after he’d call for the shotgun snap, and the ball would go flying right by him or hit him in the chest. Guess he figured it out because he ended up as a well regarded orthopaedic surgeon.
My limited knowledge of the issue involved articles on former LSU and NBA basketball star Mahmoud Abdu-Rauf, f/k/a Chris Jackson, and whether on-court manifestations might occur that would lead to technical foul calls that were unfair because he could not control
Ex-USA goalkeeper Tim Howard has tourettes and he does soccer punditry for premier league broadcasts in the USA. I have no idea if its something you can learn to control or not, but you wouldnt know it in his case.
I'm familiar with who you are talking about. Lot's of folks think she's making it up or embellishing. I don't think I have an opinion either way. Another internet-famous person with Tourette's is the guy from the UK, I think, who has a tick about caramels.
