Biden's list of failures as commander in chief are stacking up. The spy balloon collecting and transmitting signals intelligence back to Beijing as it traversed the entire continent is a major military breach, especially for an adversary as technologically advanced as China is. Shooting down the spy balloon should have been an easy decision. And it should have been done ASAP. The idea that Biden could not have taken the balloon out before it traversed the entire continent is ridiculous. It easily could have been shot down in Alaska or somewhere out west. Only when massive pressure was applied by concerned people did Biden do anything about it. However, by then the spy balloon had traversed over Alaska and all the way to the southeastern United States.

The more concerning thing here, though, is we are stacking up military blunders by the President and the view that Biden is doing great in all aspects of being commander in chief seems impervious to evidence. There is a false sense of American security. It kind of reminds me of a narcissist who is way off in his self-evaluation of his own abilities. The magical thinking of a narcissistic person is his weakness.

Group narcissism is real. It is where the group collectively takes on the personality traits of a narcissist. There are lots of articles about narcissistic personality traits. You can google them and read them, but start thinking about groups and how a narcissistic politicial/ideological group might posture themselves towards:

    1) Those who are outside of their group, which would be those who don't give ascent to their ideology.

    2) Those who criticize or disagree with them.

    3) Risks and liabilities, which are primarily economic, geopolitical, and military.

I knew that was probably coming from some of the more left-leaning posters. I don't expect what I posted to be received well. Nonetheless, we'll get to see history play out regarding magical thinking and the management of geopolitical and military risk. Hopefully, I am wrong.

The balloon had “limited additive value” for intelligence collection by the Chinese government “over and above what [China] is likely able to collect through things like satellites in low earth orbit.” Sounds terrible for us. Thank goodness China didnt get 3 balloons under Biden's nose like happened to Trump.

This could be true or it could be coach speak. I don’t know how to tell the difference.

you know- it’s possible that on some of the things you say you could be right. However, What is horrific about this conversation is you and people like you seem to lack the capacity to understand that you all literally had your heads stuck 4 feet deep in shit for the whole trump administration and now suddenly you’re seeing clearly and it’s the rest of us that are suffering from some kind of mass delusion. Give me a break.

Turns out the Chinese spy balloon used a US internet provider and we probably monitored transmissions.

U.S. intelligence officials determined the Chinese spy balloon used a U.S. internet provider to communicate

WASHINGTON — U.S. intelligence officials have determined that the Chinese spy balloon that flew across the U.S. this year used an American internet service provider to communicate, according to two current and one former U.S. official familiar with the assessment.

The Biden administration sought a highly secretive court order from the federal Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to collect intelligence about it while it was over the U.S., according to multiple current and former U.S. officials. How the court ruled has not been disclosed.

That probably explains why the balloon was not shot down sooner. While right-wing politicians and the right-wing media were condemning Biden for not shooting down the balloon sooner, the real reason for the delay was most likely that we were monitoring communications from the balloon and were gathering intelligence regarding its capabilities. We were also almost certainly taking precautions to ensure that the Chinese could not intercept the most sensitive data from US sites.
