Agree! The problem is way more than about guns (though guns are central to the problem and shouldn't be discounted) and that it's about that lack of support system, as you say.

A way to look at it is through the lens of criminal places...if we're looking for where those roots are located.

What makes high crime places (that help define "support systems" or lack thereof) and people in living in these places much more acutely susceptible to crime, violence, and a slew of other social problems compared to other places and why do so many more young males in these places succumb to the streets, i.e. gangs and/or street crime & violence?

FWIW, my original comment was snark about the common response to gun violence being met with thoughts & prayers to the victims and calls for more guns.
