Cheney becoming GOP de facto leader

I am thinking that Trump won an election 4 years ago. Lost an election about 6 months ago and then 4 months ago there was the attempted coup. Over time people will realize what they supported and who they supported and realize he is not what they thought they were supporting.

 

Disagree. People disassociate themselves with the insurrection, blame others, and try to turn the page to avoid thinking about it and move onto something else. That’s the entire Republican strategy, as @GatorBen’s posts pretty much confirm.

They've convinced much of their base that the election was stolen via fraud. I don't like Cheney, but she's at least standing up for democracy and our system of governance. The rest of the cowards in your party only continue to undermine it.

Mirror exercise: ask those self-proclaimed "evangelists" and self-proclaimed “Christians” who are behind Trump what they believe Christianity is, then ask them how Trump embodies those principles.

 

So ironic, since if they were allowed secret ballot, the QOP Senate would have voted almost unanimously to impeach Trump both times.

The cowards are just afraid of mean tweets and primary challenges.

You’re dead wrong. The insurrection is ongoing. It never stopped; it just changed tactics from physical violence to legislative violence. The Big Lie never stopped and never changed. That’s why Cheney won’t “shut up about it”. And that’s why they stripped her of her powers: because they don’t want anyone on their side objecting to their ongoing coup attempt.

I'm seeing a lot more of self-radicalization than people realizing Trump isn't what they hoped he was.

 

Is this what conservatives voters really think? Do they think that the blue tsunamis in 2018 and 2020 were just one-offs? The whole “woke” thing that pubs love to mock actually means that we see what they’re doing and are no longer assuming good faith dealing from the QOP in anything.

The national movement that crested in 2018 and flowed strongly in 2020 is not going away. And the QOP knows it. If Moscow Mitch and McCarthy think that all they have to do is say “Sleepy Joe” a lot and not bicker amongst themselves in public, and they’ll re-take power, then they wouldn’t be doubling down on losing all their non-klan supporters by implementing all the massive voter suppression laws across the country.

They know they have NO paths to victory and re-taking power but to do more gerrymandering (which is why they sabotaged the census) and a LOT more voter suppression. The only thing the QOP has in greater supply than greed, is laziness. They would never put forth all this effort, and risk all this political capital to destroy our democracy if they thought they had any chance of re-taking power in any legal/moral democratic method.

Sorry, I only saw one, and I thought Cheney’s opposition to Q would be a different topic than the act of Q stripping her power.

Posting everything remotely in one concept in the same thread does things like bury real time updates and changes in the issue, like this did, but I get the decision to swing the pendulum to the far side of broadly consolidated threads as opposed to risking a pendulum swing to a snow storm of related threads when they leave it to each individual to determine if one aspect of an issue is independently thread-worthy.

 

And now the party of “muh Russia!” lectures the party of “muh fraud!” about making excuses for losing that undermine faith in elections.

My only point is that continuing to talk about Trump (in either direction) isn’t doing the GOP any favors. That’s why the Democrats and the media are so excited to encourage them to do so (although, to be clear, this problem isn’t only in the Liz Cheney/Mitt Romney direction, nonsense like Hannity interviewing Trump isn’t helpful either). There’s a needle to be threaded in shedding the party of Trump. Pissing off every Republican voter who likes Trump pretty clearly isn’t how you do that (which is why Democrats/the media are so gung-ho that it’s exactly what the GOP needs to do).

Do you honestly think QOP leadership is trying to shed Trump from the party? McCarthy takes regular meetings with Trump a Mar-a-Lago. Lady Blah-Blah constantly goes to the media and praises Trump as the head of the party. Did you not hear/see what he JUST said a few days ago that he doesn’t think the QOP can go forward without Trump as its leader?

The only people who want Trump out are being harshly attacked and marginalized by party leadership. There are scantly a half dozen left who speak out against him. And they’re doing it because the insurrection coup is ongoing right before our eyes.

 

You may be right, but I am an optomist. When things look bad I look for an out of the box solution. The Republicans are at an inflection point. The sensible ones will either reform the party or leave and form something new. I honestly dont know what will happen. The religious and the kleptocrats seem to be in charge of the party. Both factions I believe are not good for the party and America.
