Cheney becoming GOP de facto leader

I would have bet that I would never live long enough to agree with a Cheney on any topic. Once again I would have lost.

 

She is a leader for conservatives, but the GOP doesn't want anything to do with her. Which says a lot about the modern GOP.

 

She’s got bigger nuts than most of the sissy ass dudes in that party. Such a shame the Republican Party has become. Zero dignity or honor.

 

She doesn't escape blame for her current predicament.

Not for "conservatives" either. The self-proclaimed "conservatives" are behind Trump.

 

She is the leader of the moral minority in the party, not much else sadly. Hopefully over time her message sinks in with at least some.

She's the female version of Mitt Romney. Don't let your buddies at the liberal media convince you otherwise.

I don’t disagree with her that the party needs to move on from Trump.

But I also agree with the party removing her from leadership.

At this point she’s a distraction, and the way the party moves on from Trump is to just let it go and go back to representing conservative interests in Congress. And conservative interests need Republicans in Congress focused on opposing the Biden administration and the liberal wing of Congress’s overreaches, not picking fights with other members of the caucus and constantly trying to remind everyone how bad you thought Orange Man was (which only the CNN crowd really cares about at this point, and that largely because every minute Republicans spend scolding themselves for things that happened months ago is a minute they are not spending scolding Democrats for things happening now).

 

Yep. Keep telling yourself that as half your party walks out the door as you profess fealty to Orange Jesus.

Fealty to Trump or get the hell out. Seems clear to me.

 

They are both conservatives who want what is best for America and are willing to work with their political opponents to make it happen.

 

I disagree, I don’t think Republicans are upset that she won’t bow at the altar of Trump, they’re just asking her to ignore him at this point. There’s an awful dang lot of room between “Trump is an infallible leader sent by God to save America” and taking every opportunity you get to remind everyone that you don’t like Trump and chastising your colleagues for not doing the same.

While the latter may make her personally an unlikely darling of CNN and the Washington Post, it’s hard to see how, at this point, it’s doing anything to actually help Republicans either electorally or in Congress.

Maybe eventually the GOP has to do something to disabuse some voters of the silly notion that Democrats steal elections so there’s no point in voting, but I suspect most of that was just a temper tantrum that will have faded on its own by 2022. And, for those who need more of a push to get the importance of voting to sink in, getting lectured by Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney about how Trump told a big lie is about the opposite of helpful (it’s just reinforcing the “the GOP is part of the uniparty and doesn’t represent us anyways so who cares if they win” narrative for that crowd).

 

If you want some good clean fun, ask those self-proclaimed "conservatives" who are behind Trump what they believe conservatism is, then ask them how Trump embodies those principles.
