It is exponentially worse than it was before DT and the great majority emanates from MAGA and those he supports. Lets not keep the bar that low

And for the dems here, we got DeSantis because the dems chose a terrible candidate. Just like we got Trump because dems ran Hillary. Do better.

DeSantis won because slightly more people voted for him. That's on them. The Democrats nominated a moderate (and former Republican Governor) this time. If DeSantis wins again, that'll speak volumes.

Imo, it will be about turnout. If the dem party turns out like they did in Georgia, Crist should win. If they remain stale in their turnout efforts and minorities don't vote because Crist is white, it is on the dems.

Not singularly or in a vacuum. Trump did this stuff nightly.. on twitter... For years... All while being a disgustingly vile human being on top of it.
look GL. I think you know I respect you around here, but with all due respect you're defending people who stole other peoples livelihoods over bodily autonomy (which you claim to defend). Who's putting out their fire? You supported property owners losing the right to collect their livelihood on their private property while our government handed out "rent" money without making sure it paid rent. That same government the lifted the foreclosure ban before lifting the rent ban.(the list goes on and on.) My governor kept schools closed while parents struggled to work and educate. My oldest daughter basically lost part of her soph, all of her jr and a part of sr years.it had a profound impact that we can still see today...she lost some contact with friends and her social circle changed dramatically, so please spare me the fact the people like me "sadden" you. i guess we all have our vices.

FTR I would take Kasich or Romney over just about anyone. Won't be an option though.

Trump would make Desantis cry like a baby during a debate. I'm actually looking forward to that night. Alliances will be broken broken and the GOP civil war will begin.

Great posts on this topic. I give people a break for voting for Donald in 2016. Lot’s of factors there. However you hit nail on the head in this post. Anyone who was turned away by Trump but lured back by Desantis learned the wrong lesson.

Because some liberal minded folks on a message board said so?

You learned the wrong lesson. We are turned off by Trump being a terrible human being outside of the political spectrum. We are turned off because he lived on twitter attacking everything with the ability of an 11 year old. We were turned off because he failed on promise after promise. We are turned off by his fake Bible toting. We are turned off by his laughing off the pandemic. And on it goes

We are not turned off by DeSantis going for the political throat of the pRogReSsiVeS.

DeSantis showed very good decorum and gave solid counters (using covid) about dictatorship. Trump would never be able to do that. He would have undressed the reporter. Attacked family members. Called people ugly, fat and lazy... Etc.

DeSantis did exactly what a politician should. He directly addressed the question and countered it in kind.

Desantis iS a fIgHtEr! You guys crack me up.

This says it better than I could and 4 paragraphs is a sin.

Ron DeSantis Would Kill Democracy Slowly and Methodically

While conservatives frequently blurt out their belief that democracy is bad because “we’re a republic, not a democracy,” they blanch at the authoritarian label. To the extent many of them grudgingly accept that Trump poses some danger to the Republic, they attribute that danger entirely to his idiosyncratic style. As National Review’s Dan McLaughlin puts it, “My quarrel all along with Trump was his longstanding & notorious personal & public character. DeSantis just doesn’t have those issues.”

It follows from this premise that any attempt to associate non-Trump elements of the Republican Party with authoritarianism is transparently disingenuous. In my DeSantis profile, I wrote that his candidacy reflects the calculation that “any former Republican voter who opposed Trump on moral rather than aesthetic grounds is gone and not worth trying to bring back.”

    ————————-jump down——————

What this seemingly clever comparison omits is that DeSantis also promoted conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. He has never conceded that Joe Biden won the election legitimately. Instead, he created an election-crimes task force and claimed the public needed to restore confidence in the sanctity of the ballot.

What’s just as important as DeSantis’s longstanding suspicion of democracy and string of thuggish Orbanist maneuvers is his calculation that he can co-opt these same radical forces. The path to reconstituting the GOP as a party that we can entrust with the Republic involves shoving out at least some of its extremists while bringing the Never Trump wing back into the fold. DeSantis’s strategy is just the opposite. He has ignored the slice of Republicans who disdain Trump’s authoritarianism and courted anti-vaxxers, QAnon believers, and insurrectionists. And he has demonstrated repeatedly a “no enemies to the right” strategy that inevitably binds him to the party’s most fanatical elements.

Even those of us who didn’t vote for Trump and feared what he was, still hoped he would be better. And he had some successes that were overwhelmed by his negatives. The commitment to buy vaccines, the Abraham Accords... But, the downside was too much

. I want to argue policy. I disagree(d) with Romney, McCain and Liz Cheney on many things, but not on fundamental issues concerning democratic principles, free speech, our traditional foreign relations. No way any of them have the kind of contacts with Russian agents that Trump’s campaign did in 2016; no way they have people like Mike Flynn or Paul Manafort or Roger Stone associated with their campaigns. No way that they use foreign policy to extort Ukraine for their campaigns like Trump did. And no way that they lie that an election was stolen from them and they attempt to steal a fair election. No way they they keep top secret documents in storage rooms at a club open tot the public. Candidly, I know someone who had dealings with Trump, and the fiasco was not surprising. Trump has no ideology except himself. Trump has no loyalty except to himself.

Eh. Crist's politics aside he's a sleeze and I won't be voting for him either. I don't think it was an inspiring nomination from the Dems, despite being "moderate."

So we’re citing NYMag now huh? Lol, this editorial is probably less credible than reading your own posts on TooHot. Nice try. Appreciated the chuckle.
