Good luck, Ray. I’ve loved this experience for a couple of decades. I don’t think you will be able to achieve a modicum of civility without cutting your premium subscription membership by 50 to 75 percent. That might be ok. I would pay quite a bit more if the signal to noise ratio was higher. How should we deal with posts that don’t seem to align with the new standard? I would have hit the “report” icon a number of times today if that was the clear method of flagging nonsense.
Not Ray - but I know the mods are very good about looking at anything that you hit with the report button. It doesn't mean that they will view the post the same way the reporter does. And, it doesn't mean you will hear back from them as these are busy folks, busier than ever right now. But they do always respond by looking at the post. Anyone that enjoys these boards ought to be very thankful for the moderators. It can't be easy to balance the free flowing banter that makes this place lively and fun with keeping things civil. We, as individuals, have very different personal standards in terms of what is reasonably just smack talk amongst friends. It is literally impossible for the mods to moderate to each individual standard on that stuff so folks will think they go to far and others will think they let stuff slide that they shouldn't. To the extent we can, let's keep that in mind. They are going to make a good faith effort but it can't possibly meet everyone's expectations.
Allow me to throw out (or support if previously mentioned) eliminating the negative rating options. I think that adds an extra level of vitriol that's frankly unnecessary and counterproductive to an enjoyable environment. I can't help but think some "dislike wars" have escalated conflicts between posters, and if someone says anything that deserves a flood of dislikes or "come on man"s, then it should just be reported anyway.
Excellent feedback GGD. Thanks for the props to the mods and agree that hitting the report button on questionable posts is the way to go. It's really the most efficient way for mods to know what's up on a timely basis.
Sorry Ray, but sports fanatics are an emotional bunch. Gator fans are an irrational bunch. And Gators fans who would pay to come here are in need of intense pychotherapy. This board is your frankenstein, so good luck trying to control it without killing it.
