No, he did disagree. Strongly. So did Austin and McKenzie. The record reflects it. More and more will come out as we get further from the event. Your question over why they did not resign is valid, but the easy answer is not simply “Well, they must have agreed with it then.”

He’s talking about July to August 2021, not June 2020. So the short answer is, Biden would still be President (unlikely to appoint a “MAGA mainliner” in Milley’s place) and Trump would still be a bitter, delusional old man with no authority over any General at all.

What? Are we just now posting stirring documents on which the overwhelming majority of Americans agree (but are not really relevant to the point the other poster was making)?

OK, I can do that, too, I guess.

The poster claimed that Gen Milley did not stand up to Trump. He clearly did after Jan 6.

Two points: First, this thread about his participation in the walk across Lafayette Square in June 2020. He made the walk. He did not refuse. He did not try to beg off and/or convince the President that this walk sent a wrong message. All he did was later say he wished he wouldn’t have and even later say he “considered” resigning. That is not standing up to Trump. He does not get credit for “almost” standing up to Trump or “considering” standing up to Trump.

Second, that document you posted is very clearly from all of the Joint Chiefs, not just Milley. And it correctly reiterates the political neutrality of the armed forces to all of us in armed service. If you want to interpret that as Milley individually standing up to Trump, then fine. He still didn’t resign, even if he “considered” it again.

Mattis did, and it made a difference.

Interesting… most Generals and Admirals I’ve met have been pretty exceptional people. Then again, General Flynn seemed like a cool guy when he spoke at my good buddy’s retirement ceremony. I didn’t even realize it was the same guy until I was cleaning out my nightstand and found the 10 year old program. Yep… same guy.

OK, I'll bite. What is the point about the 272 words that changed the nation, switched is from a Roman conception of Republican virtue to a Greek conception of the polis, from a liberty Constitution to an equality Constitution? Credit for all - Garry Wills
