From what I understand, the PAC-12 “doesn’t count” as a P5 team anymore. The top 5 conference champions are in, regardless of conference.

 

P5 means nothing anymore. Highest ranked conference champs

The two highest-ranked SEC teams at the end of the season go to the SEC championship.

Liberty is in a conference, right? If so, they can get in, provided their conference makes the top 6 under my plan. If not, then they need to stop making excuses, stop acting like they’re special, and join a conference like everyone else who wants a chance at a national championship.

 

This kind of sucks... rewarding sucky strength of schedules... of teams in sucky conferences? These types of conference winners, that are somehow ranked, are what I hope they can avoid getting into the habit of letting into the playoffs. You know the pressure of these nobody school conferences will sue to get into the playoffs somehow.

This is why I think more polls are needed in the new playoffs age... ones that are better at calculating strength of schedules. We might have to bring back the Harris poll, and SOME of the the computer polls... the real good ones. The AP used to be good, but they turned into a popularity contest and they are also very politically regional in their rankings.

But strength of schedules must be PARAMOUNT in picking these 12 playoff teams... they can never be automatic qualifiers sneaking onto this. As it's presented right now they are saying that there will be NO automatic qualifiers. I hope they stay true to their word.

 

Liberty or anyone of their ilk should never get a bye week. They should get the opportunity to beat Georgia for the chance to play a team that earned a bye week. However, I like 16 teams and no byes. Byes are subjective at best.

CFB already moving to 14 in 2026 before they’ve even played 12.

 

With the power 2 getting 21 million each, significantly more than the other conferences, I would think this takes the pressure off to expand further or to break away and form their own league.
This guy punches the ACC teams wanting out, there is nowhere to go.

 

I totally agree with "GoodTree" A. K. A., Paul Finebaum, that G5 teams should NOT get an automatic bid to the playoffs. Sorry if that's not mentioned.
