Was talking hoops but even if you consider football I don’t think anyone seriously thought Tebow would leave the school he loved so much. I don’t remember there being any type of consensus that he was leaving. Maybe a minority who speculated. Whereas the 04’s were supposed to be a no brainer to leave with three of them projected as top 10 picks and Noah being the number 1 overall if he came out that year.
Look forward to seeing more of what Felder can do without Duruji in front of him. I think Felder is a better player and if given minutes, can be a really good player.
Got it. Thanks. I haven’t followed Roy Williams’ coaching philosophy, but UNC lost Walker Kessler after one year because they didn’t play him. Coach K was the same, at least earlier in his career. He lost a lot of good players because of that and stunted the development of others. That was one of my biggest problems with Mike White. On top of that, way too many posters on Gator Country assumed that if White didn’t play a kid or played him the wrong way and the kid didn’t perform, then the kid wasn’t any good. Wrong.
I was literally trying to think what was the last time we had this big of a return and the 04's came to mind.
Great to know we have the center spot covered. Now if we can just get him the ball in more useful spaces.
On this I meant his refusal to play his freshmen until late in the season. Agree on you comment though.
No, but those were two unbelievably skilled bigs who could pass, handle the ball, lead the break, move off the ball, etc. We weren’t just running high-low with them. And for as ahead of the curve as Donovan was, the hoops analytics wave had barely made a ripple in college at that point.
nice town lots of artists, music, lots of old wud west history. Taos NM ski resort, summer retreat in the mountains about an hour away from Santa Fe which is in the foothills of the mountains. Albuquerque is an hour south.
I've skied both Taos and Angel Fire, some of the best skiing I've ever done. (worked at Keystone Colo for 3 years, skied the French Alps while stationed in Germany)
I spent a week in Santa Fe and a week in Taos. Both great towns. I prefer Taos. It’s a small town, but had tons of restaurants and art galleries, plus plenty of other fun things to do. For you golfers, I played golf twice at Black Mesa, which is about a half hour outside of Santa Fe. It’s like playing golf in a national park. Spectacular. See the attached photo. In this past season, injuries had slowed down players like Jitoboh, Felder and others. Hopefully, both Felder & Jitiboh will come back much healthier and be able to contribute. There was a significant lack of depth in the front-court whenever some of those players became injured and had to miss games or even the season. In the post, Jitoboh was a space eater and was a pretty effective scorer there, too. His rebounding could use more work. Maybe Jitoboh should concentrate more on boxing people out (& let a teammate go for the rebound) rather than going for the rebound himself. Even though Jitoboh seems to lack the quickness, I believe that his heft influenced opposing players whenever they tried to drive to the basket. Who wants to risk injury running into a mound of flesh? lol. At BC, Felder was known to be a solid rebounder, scorer and rim-protector. We'll see if he can bring those same skills again next season. Felder was able to hit the 3-ball at a high rate (40% at one time). In Felder, Florida could have a decent "pick & pop" player at the 4, too. I heard some people talk about the incoming freshman center, Reed, was also able to hit from the mid-range as well, we'll see. With the return of All-SEC Center Collin Castleton to Florida, the Gators should have a potentially good to great front-court for the 2022-23 season. Along with his improved post up game & rebounding, I would like to see Castleton try to make more of the mid-range shots like he did in his first season with the Gators. Last season, Collin was a pretty good passer out of the block. It will be interesting what kind of sets Golden will implement to take advantage of Castleton's passing and other players' abilities. Florida should have many combinations in the front-court: i.e, the more likely lineup of C:Castleton/PF:Felder or the back-up combination of C:Jitoboh/PF:J.Reed or even at times, Florida could go for the "twin-towers" look C:J.Reed or Jitoboh/ PF:Castleton
Interestingly enough, Harvey played most of his minutes alongside Bonner and Wright, not Haslem, to get better spacing. Donovan was way ahead of his time, even then to a degree.
