Ranking the 41 college football bowl games for 2022-23: Playoff matchups deliver as Orange, Sugar disappoint Checking in at #40 (they got the year wrong, btw. It was 1988):
First- the only thing sadder than that field goal is a writer who can't even get a simple fact correct. It's not like google could give him the answer in 2 seconds. What a sad, stupid hack of a writer. I get that the media loves to kick us when we are down, but the field goal was absolutely the right decision. I think it was 4th and 22 or something- the odds of getting a TD were beyond small. Plus, it wasn't like we were winning the game so why not preserve the streak that extends to 1988. It's funny- I never remember anyone saying the 83 Miami team did the wrong thing in kicking a ridiculous field goal in our game with them. They were down 28-0 and kicked one just to avoid the shutout. It really hurt their program- they went on to win the NC later that year.
I'm having trouble believing there was a worse game than ours. I guess the suspense of maintaining the scoring streak made it a little interesting at the end.
I guess the blowout LSU gave was the reason their game was the last place. I would be ok with our game being the worst.
There isn’t a coach in the country that would not have made the same decision to kick a FG in that moment. The writer is a meathead.
LOL. I was calling for kicking the field goal on first, second and third down before we lost any more turf!! But dorks in the media don't want the Gators to even have the shutout streak. Screw those guys. And for the record, the worst Bowl games this year were the ones with female commentators. (just kidding, sort of)
The writer is an idiot. But he’s also right. That was the worst bowl game this season, because of us.
The schtick of these kinds of writers is to be as sarcastic and snarky as they can. They think that constitutes humor.
Right, to be clear, I think it's fine for writers/ media to criticize the team for not showing up and for acting like they didn't want to be there. That is fair game, and frankly the team deserves it. That performance should sting Napier and everyone associated with the team.
Streaks means nothing. The FG was a proper end to punctuate this season with AR at QB. Too bad we couldn't have another Hail Mary pass into the end zone seats. That would be a record that would last forever.
