I would have been ok with it being a completed pass because it would have meant we recovered the fumble. But yes, all of it was just poorly called
I guess the ref reasoned if the targeting had not occurred then the receiver would’ve held onto the ball and it would have been a first down. That’s all I can think of. Anyway, I’m glad they corrected the mistake.
Some of these past history hits might be called targeting today. That Castell could deliver that blow without it being targeting was superior timing and aim.
Understood... but by that logic a ref could award a TD because "the receiver would have caught the ball if not for the defenders Pass Int" Imagine how that would go down LOL ... but agree, glad it was reversed!
In rugby, a ref can do just that. If someone prevents a person from scoring by committing a foul, the ref can award a penalty try, which is the equivalent of a touchdown.
In fairness he said it wasnt a penalty and the booth official said he launched too. (He did). But the launch did not make contact with the head or neck area. Just my opinion, and I know we love to hate announcers on this board for some weird reason, but McElroy is very good at his job and spoke highly of Billy and UF the whole game.
I am glad you mentiond this. I am typically not an announcer hates us guy, but it felt like McElroy had some ax to grind with us. Lot's of comments like Ole Miss is the suppier team... and the only way Ole Miss loses if they beat themselves. It sort of wore on me.
he was terrible its funny to see 2 diametrically opposed views of the same game. I thought that early on, he was very complimentary of DJ. Also thought that as the game went on, he was riding Dart and Ole Miss to a nauseating degree. The booth’s criticism of not using entire play clock on the final drive was over the top.
Tough to play at the same level Banks is playing but I hope he can do it. It was definitely a loss when he got hurt.
