Can't we just buy the best team in CFB??

Because it's illegal, and even if it's isn't illegal, it would be tampering at the very least.

 

If all it takes is to buy the best team, we all should hope Harvard never decides they want to get into big time college football.

 

Until I see better data, what Norvell did was to sign a meh QB in Travis. His first year WAS meh, but then he got religion. We won the game last year, except we allowed him to take it from us. And AR wasn't a gamer. It is what it is. So, you would be all giddy if we signed the meh QB known as Travis? Methinks that is revisionist history.

Now to what I think is more important. He found some really nice pieces on the D-line, Verse especially. Did he out-recruit Napier or was Verse 1) another hidden gem or 2) he wanted to play on a team with Travis and an ACC competition schedule? I would only say that Norvell was 3 years ahead of Napier and so had a chance to clean up a major mess and then got busy on these pieces whereas Napier is STILL cleaning up his mess.

How about the receiving corps that FSU has? is it remarkable, or is it that the teams they played - including us - were less-than-great at the back 7? Louisville should have ended their "outstanding" season if their QB had not tried so hard to win the Heisman against them. Truly one of THE worse performances I have seen on a team that had something to play for.

And now to what is THE salient point: okay, the stars aligned for Norvell this season, except for the injury to Travis. Let's figure out what he will have next year without Travis and his "one-year wonders" he signed. THEN we can anoint him better than Napier. But then, we also have to see what Napier brings in. You just can't look at one thing and not everything.

Not gonna buy the best team in college football by recruiting the 1600 SAT scores. Gonna have to pay the same players that all schools are after. Eighty five football players that are only there for football aren't going to make a dent in the overall school GPA. And, with the endowment they have, they won't make much of a dent in that either.

 

If Georgia and Florida rosters were switched next year so we have every one that was part of their team last year wearing a Gator uniform and playing in the Swamp, would you root for them? At what point, if any, does the team cease being a Gator?

Exactly, which is why Harvard could get any player they wanted if just wanted to field a great football team, and if they have no issues with the recruits' academics. They could have as close to an entire NFL quality roster with the money they have in their endowment every recruiting class, and it wouldn't have any impact on the endowment.

 

Their noses are far to lost in the air to care about the caveman sport.

I can’t vouch for their results but if you look it up, we only had one player in the top 100 and that was Graham Mertz. If you believe their numbers were getting out bought in NIL.

So you’re saying we can’t compete NIL wise or are you saying we didn’t focus enough on transfers? The latter I believe. Having a Top 10 recruiting class tells me we are competitive in the NIL space.

 

Where do you get your information that we are top 10 in NLL money? When I try to look this up the only reference I could find is on the on3 website. According to their statistics, we only had one player in the top 100 getting NIL money.

 

They don’t know who’s getting what. These deals don’t have to be reported. They may get a nugget here and there, but no way in hell they have even remotely accurate numbers for every college athlete. They’re in the business of selling bs, and some folks sure love to eat it.

 

I looked by collective (school), not by individual. All these rankings are conjecture, but in an August 2022 ranking Florida shows up around #5. That was before the creation of Gator Guard and before the closing of both Gator Collective and Gator Guard in favor of Florida Victorious. The June 2023 ranking does not include Florida at all, possibly because it was in the process of closing down two collectives to stand up a new one and there were not many athletes transitioned to the new collective. Furthermore there is a lot of conjecture on the methodology used to come up with these numbers. Some collectives are for profit and some are not, which means they have different reporting requirements. On an individual level On3 calculates valuation based on social media presence and other factors, so it is hard to get a true metric.

 

Money doesn’t have to run through a collective.
