If you don’t like paying more taxes, just earn $5M so you get a tax break.

Rick, no one changed Reagan's stats. To his credit, he's the only Republican president since WWII who left office with a lower unemployment rate than he inherited.

I was referencing this argument from the past experiences here... from a long while ago.

Trump plans to put Tom Homan, the primary architect of P2025, in his administration along with roughly 30 other Heritage guys who worked on it.

Name the only President that had to deal with a worldwide pandemic in the modern age that caused Governments around the world to shutdown their economies.

So the OPs first post is at the very least misleading and at worse a complete fabrication

    Project 2025 is not Trump’s Project 2025.

… and Trump was one of the worst world leaders at “handling” it.

Other than maybe “Brazilian Trump”, and the Chinese (who obviously were the originators, and yet wrecked their own economy a full additional year with their ongoing “zero tolerance” policy). Most of the rest of the world found better middle ground.

We can discuss the pros and cons of how it was handled here vs other countries The US had a very, “regional” I’ll call it policy on covid lockdowns, it really varied state to state. Had we went the way the stricter states went it would have been far worse economically. In contrast had we went the way less restrictive states went it may have been worse in terms of death toll.

I really make the comment to put in perspective the lost jobs really weren’t due to policies but directly due to Covid.
Even fact checkers admit this when fact checking Biden’s comments in the last debate.

“As he did during the debate, and on many other occasions, Biden compared Trump to Herbert Hoover, the Depression-era president. Biden said Trump — like Hoover — “lost more jobs than he created.”

But, as we’ve written, Biden is ignoring the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The U.S. added nearly 6.7 million jobs in Trump’s first 37 months in office. But a string of 37 months of consecutive job growth ended in March 2020, when the economy lost 1.4 million jobs and bottomed out the next month when it lost nearly 20.5 million jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The job market started to recover in May 2020. But by the end of Trump’s four years, the U.S. had about 2.7 million fewer total jobs.”

Perhaps you missed the post that I responded to where Rick claimed that more people were working under Trump, which is just factually false regardless of the reason. Or perhaps you missed his multiple posts in another thread where he tried to compare Covid economy to now on issues like gas prices or earnings. I am sure you corrected him on any of those issues, right?

    Yes, that’s all true.

I never blamed Trump for “job losses”, I blamed him for being a damned liar and snake oil salesman. Although of course a politician like Biden is going to jump over a statistic like that.

No such thing as a free pandemic.

Kind of similar to that inflation spike. Just as Biden uses that jobs number against Trump to remind people how bad things were in 2020, right wing politicians will try to assign inflation to Biden. Both are sort of nonsense points for the rubes on either side to eat up and use as talking points or memes. Halfway intelligent people will dig a bit deeper, meme brains will do what they do.

Yeah, when it hurts Trump's record, the Trump followers want to throw out the 2020 numbers. But when it hurts Biden's record, they want to include them. That's just how they roll.

Trump was two weeks away from a health plan for basically five years. Do I believe he had any part of putting together a 1,000 page manifesto? Absolutely not. Do I believe he would hire tons of people that worked on it to carry out those objectives? Ab-so-fkin-lutely.

People that think that Project 2025 isn’t tied to Trump are either naive or ignorant.

Thank you. These articles are almost verbatim for the arguments against Trump 2025. High tariffs and huge reduction in labor force by deporting millions of undocumented immigrants that will lead to financial ruin are the arguments in all the above links. And same arguments being made today. Which begs the question, why didn't Trump tank the economy the first time around?

Several reasons why Trump's first term didn't result in economic ruin. First, Trump was a novice politician who didn't understand how things work in D.C. Remember Trump's first Muslim ban? A ridiculous XO that was quickly shot down by the courts. It took months for Trump to figure things out.

Trump also had people on his staff that were the adults in the room. They slowed, or even stopped many of Trump's desires, especially early on in Trump's tenure. Many of them left the administration, but by the midterms, Trump no longer had a R Congress, and couldn't do everything he wanted.

As a result, Trump didn't get to deport millions. In fact, he accomplished little in terms of undocumented immigration. Trump did get to enact some of his wanted tariffs, and as a result, we had to spend millions subsidizing soybean farmers, who saw their business collapse.

That was 2017 - 2021. If Trump wins again, he'll take office in 2025. And things are much different today. For one thing, the former staff "adults in the room" are all gone (and aren't voting for Trump by the way), and the people left to be on Trump's staff are all true believers, sycophants, and Heritage Project types. Trump is also now a more seasoned politician, and understands how the swamp works. He also has a more favorable Supreme Court. All things that point to Trump being able to be more successful initiating his full agenda this time around.

But perhaps the biggest difference is the current economic conditions. Back in 2017, we were in the middle of unprecedented, mature economy growth. It takes a lot to derail a mature economy. Which the pandemic certainly did. Today, our economy is strong, but nowhere near as stable as it was four years ago. And global economies are even more unstable. While the economy could withstand the destruction of US soybean production in 2018 and not miss a beat, today, likely different story.

It's a logical fallacy to believe just because Trump didn't tank the economy, and actually had similar growth numbers that Obama had during Obama's second term, that magically, Trump will somehow magically return to those same economic numbers. Trump's team will be different, and more importantly, the world is much different.
