Let’s say Lagway or another commit wanted to watch Florida play Utah in person? Could they buy their own ticket and then have access to the team and coaches? I think the answer is no but want to check. By the way, is anyone going to the Utah game? I’m flying out from ATL Wednesday solo. Wife is holding down the fort with the 1 year old. Never been to Utah before so open to suggestions and down to meet up and tailgate if any Gators from the board are going.
I don't think there would be any problem with a recruit going to the away game, but there might be an issue if they were allowed in the locker room or sidelines or given any access to the team anybody else couldn't have.
I'd think it would have to be really convenient for that player to get to the game. Can't see anyone buying a plane ticket to see the Gators play far from their home. Wouldn't be too surprised to see a Louisiana commit come to the LSU game or a North Carolina or Georgia commit go to the SC game.
If they pay their own way, for their own lodging, and don't have contact with the coaches, I think they'd be free to do whatever they want.
Really? Lagway has paid his own way to G'ville multiple times. I don't think paying his own way to see the Gators play an away game against a Top 10-15 team is beyond the realm of possibility. It would probably be a great trip for him, especially when we win.
To answer the OP, as best as i know a recruit can NOT interact with the away team and their staff on a ROAD game. I believe with neutral site games there are exceptions to that rule but not strictly road games. Lagway can’t go to the Utah game with a ticket behind the Gator bench and be buddy buddy
Uh, I will be at the game and will be interacting with as many Utes as possible. I’m hoping Nape sees me in Row 53 and says “damn, offensive line is banged up, check that bmf in the Tebow jersey for eligibility”.
Gawd, if it is so bad a dude wearing a Tebow jersey sitting in row 53 has to play... Unless, of course, your name is Pouncey.
They can unofficially visit games. Official visits had not been allowed at neutral site games. I believe UF and UGA just received permission from NCAA for a permanent neutral site game like Jacks to have visitors for the home team in Jacks as well. So r wry other year we can host in Jacks if desired was my understanding
You cannot tell someone that they can't go to a game that they pay to see out of their own pocket. I mean, how unfair would that be to a high school kid whose parents are season ticket holders to either UF or uga to tell a kid that they can't use one of their family tickets to go to the game in Jax because one of the programs is or might recruit them? As far as Kirby is concerned, he wanted to bring kids to Jax on a recruiting trip. Big difference between Lagway paying his own way.
That has changed for neutral site games, they can host in alternate years. As for the original question, a kid can go to any game they want on their own dime. UF couldn't "host" them in the recruit visit sense but they are free to attend.
