Eric, I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say Gator Nation was surprised by the hiring of Coach Golden. Would you mind writing down your thoughts? You clearly know the game and folks here have tremendous respect for your knowledge. I’d like to know if you think this is an upgrade or not plus what we can expect from his team. Do you think he can recruit in the SEC? I’d like a White/Golden comparison if you are inclined. You were very diplomatic with your writings during the MW regime but I detected some frustration with the program. Maybe I’m wrong. Are you excited, nervous, elated, wary? Glad White is gone? No? Many, many thanks, friend. Go Gators “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
He wrote the Gator Country article on Golden’s hiring yesterday if you haven’t already read it: Gators Hire Todd Golden As New Basketball Coach | GatorCountry.com
I don't!!! Please no! Just look at Alabama and Nate Oats... Last year they won by Analytics shooting threes and layups. This year they DIED by Analytics. They could not not shoot threes ... and guess what??? Analytics went out the window.. and they were over rated and out first round. It's about players, synergy(player/coaching), and then game coaching moments and big game clutch. Go with Analytics when your team sucks at doing the Analytics... That's when real coaching comes in.
Given the back and forth on this board about MW, I hope Eric will write an additional piece with more depth and a comparison of both coaches. We’ll see. As I said in the earlier post, he was diplomatic but I sensed some frustration with MW. “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
I'd also check out the Florida Basketball Hour podcast if you haven't already. Eric talks about the hire for most of the podcast.
