I'd love playing poker with you, dude. Apparently the concept of bluffing or intimidating someone to get them to back off, even when you're holding nothing is foreign to you. When someone you think is bluffing doubles down, and you have yourself a flush, you call them on it and perhaps even double down yourself. These flights are applying pressure to these cities. And it's not an overnight fix, but something is going to give. Either they put their money where their mouth is, the flights stop, or they break and they change. Possibilities 1 and 3 are a lot more desirable for a guy like DeSantis than 2.
Are any of the examples you've given of a governor or mayor from a completely different and unaffiliated state/city shipping folks between two states/cities they have no governance over?
What goalposts? My continuous point in this thread is how absurd it is that the governor of Florida is using Florida taxpayer dollars to ship people from Texas to California. The fact you can't acknowledge this waste of money shows me you're willing to defend all things DeSantis, even the absolute absurdity of this use of taxpayer dollars. I've never argued the legality or the morality.
That's not what others have said which is the point that I'm responding to. Others have said if the city or state officials move somebody that's a violation of law worthy of criminal consequences. I'm just highlighting the wide variety of Democrats that happens to encompass.
See, this isn't a poker game though. You are just as likely to get politicians who will put them on a flight right back to where they came from. They will just make up a reason to do it, and you will scream hypocrisy, and then some politicians will come up with something even more ludicrous to do. Like DeSantis and Abbott havent even had a conversation with other governors, is their plan just to wait for them to beg at their feet? They aren't in office much longer, then what?
What policy is that? Change it to what? I think that's the problem here is that no one has made any specific demands, because this is not a policy gambit, its a political stunt.
You are actually the one shifting goalposts here (what else is new). I’ve already explained to you, the FRAUD is the line of demarcation. The fact that they “tricked’ the immigrants is the potential (if not outright obvious) crime. If Desantis offered a free shuttle service using FL taxpayer money to move people out of state it would be an odd use of taxpayer funds, but it would not be illegal if they were truthful to the passengers about the destination (well maybe not totally legal, since apparently recent FL law cracks down even on transporting illegal immigrants, guess they mean that law applies to all except Desantis’ pals). States have no jurisdiction to enforce immigration. It is 100% the federal government’s purview. But obviously states can arrange voluntary transport for anyone for any number of reasons. This can be evacuating people from a flood or because some crazed right wing governor decided it’s a good political stunt to strand groups of people on the roadside. Can you show that any of those states/cities were involved in “tricking” the immigrants that were dumped on their door? As is alleged with these stunts? Pointing to a Republican mayor who didn’t like that they were using a hotel doesn’t show us anything, other than he apparently wasn’t pleased Chicago found an available hotel to use in his town.
ICE Is Targeting ‘Sanctuary’ Cities With Increased Enforcement and Massive Fines There is no single, universal definition of what constitutes a “sanctuary” policy. These policies come in many forms and may include: Policies restricting the ability of state and local police to make arrests for federal immigration violations, or to detain individuals on civil immigration warrants. Policies prohibiting “287(g)” agreements through which ICE deputizes local law enforcement officers to enforce federal immigration law. Policies that prevent local governments from entering into a contract with the federal government to hold immigrants in detention. Policies restricting the police or other city workers from asking about immigration status. Policies restricting the sharing of certain information on immigrants with the federal government. Policies refusing to allow ICE into local jails without a judicial warrant.
Again, can you prove beyond a reasonable doubt that DeSantis ordered state officials to lie to the migrants?
