Are you talking about a Habitat for Humanity reselling store, where the camaras are mostly there to limit theft? Not subject to FOIA? Why not in your office? Why not hook an office camera up to the internet so we can all see it? Doesn't sound like something anyone would want, does it?

Again, this is a ridiculous argument. If there’s no sound, what would be the point? Teachers don’t stand in one one place all day long, would you have the camera follow them as they moved around? That’s creepy

The other comment upthread is germane as well. What if someone got an FOIA request, edited it, and that teacher became a target of crazy folks? Not far fetched as it happened to a librarian in Oklahoma. She made an innocent tik tok about reading and Libs of Tik Tok edited it, the Sec of Education spread it on social media and now the school district is getting bomb threats.

Again, you really didn’t think it all the way through and now you’re flailing. OT, stay safe.

What difference does the reason make? Am I wrong? Put them in classrooms to protect students and teachers just like I put them in buildings to protect my staff.

There is no audio so what exactly is the concern? Other than to just make an issue where there isnt one?

Lol. I swear if someone does anything even remotely uncomfortable to a teacher, you are against it. Again, I married a teacher. I was raised by one as well. Im not out to get teachers, but a camera in the classroom isnt the evil that you are painting it.

And Flailing? What the heck? My position hasnt changed at all.

And no sound doesnt make it useless. You do understand that most surveillance cameras are soundless by law, yet still serve a very important purpose

So why don't you have a camera in your office to protect yourself and the other people who visit your office? One that public can view upon request, too. I know why, because no sane person would want that.

How would a camera without sound help here, anyway? The teacher is accused to trying to talk a kid into being transgender ... it would require audio to be of any use, here.

Again, Why are you making this specific to my office? My point is that all kinds of professions require it. That is a fact, so now you change the subject to be about me specifically. Many professions require it. Why shouldnt one with our kids? I'm not saying put a camera in a school office. But if my company suddenly required it, why would I care? It's silent. Me sitting at my desk would likely be a pretty boring watch.

We have them on all sorts of buildings, inside and out. Many of them have nothing to do with "theft".

It wouldnt. I've never made the case that that is the reason. I'm talking in general. We get all up in arms at the thought, when in reality there are benefits. Many have to do with protecting teachers.

That is all I am saying. Go back to my first post and see the reasons I gave.

I just don’t see the need for it. And there is no way cameras in the class would be video only. Cons are so obsessed with what teachers are teaching and have so little respect or trust for teachers in general that they’d demand audio. Then some mom for liberty type will comb through it trying to find teachers who made a comment they don’t agree and blow it out of proportion.

I would be against audio unless there was some stipulation on its use. (Probable cause for a crime/felony or something similar)

Most states have laws about audio surveillance already in place.

Okay, we’ll you are one, convince moms for liberty, Ron DeSantis, and Florida state legislature that cameras in the classroom should not have audio. I mean, how are you going to catch teachers being woke and turning kids gay without audio, right? No point, otherwise.

it’s usually not illegal “audio surveillance” if you put out a sign that says “audio and video is being recorded”, but the state would simply add an exception to the law if they wanted to legalize audio video recording.

Perhaps you should have waited longer to get in. That would have afforded greater opportunity to gather information and contemplate the realm of possibilities.

Your office is not, but your business is "all on camera all day"? :emoji_thinking:
Schools are not businesses and should not be run like them. Like others said, you're not thinking this through. And if there should be a camera, why no audio? Do you realize you're asking for Big Brother?

Please Don’t Put Cameras In Classrooms

we don’t want teachers to play to the camera. Think of this as the Senate confirmation hearing-ization of the classroom. If you’ve ever watched a confirmation hearing at length, you quickly start to realize that Senators aren’t talking to the nominee, or even to their fellow senators. They are speaking to the audience at home. This is why there are very few questions, and mostly statements, and the questions that are asked are more of the variety designed to provoke a reaction that can be clipped for social media rather than to elicit a useful response.

Take just a moment and consider the negative effects. Ask the Googles and find reliable sources (not the articles published by surveillance companies ;)).

I'm sure that would be a FERPA issue, but I would worry about the security of any surveillance intel. How is it stored/secured/etc. Nobody has considered the costs either, not to mention equity issues. The idea of cameras in classrooms is just flat dumb.

Ok, and I would ask you to take off the teacher goggles for a moment and see why others might see this different?

    1. Yes. 24 hours. My business is closed right now due to the storm, but I can pull the cameras up on my phone 24/7.
Work in my warehouse? You are on camera. Work as a cashier? You are on camera. Truck driver? The lots are on camera. Volunteer staff? On camera. Parking your car? On camera. Construction crews in the warehouse? On camera.
Multiple buildings. Multiple locations. Inside. Outside. All on camera.

Schools are in essence businesses. Just like my non profit is. They have employees, budgets, marketing, HR, PR, boards, bills to pay and patrons. Etc

They also have something more important than any other business: Our kids.

A little camera in the corner isnt gonna change the way a good teacher teaches.
