California becomes first state to offer health insurance to ALL illegal migrants: Taxpayers will be forced to fork out $3.1BN PER YEAR in medical care for an extra 700,000 people (msn.com)

On January 1, taxpayers will now be forced to fork out thousands for medical care for an additional 700,000 undocumented immigrants - between 26 and 49 - eligible for full coverage under Medi-Cal, California's Medicaid program.

Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom and lawmakers agreed in 2022 to provide health care access to all low-income adults regardless of their immigration status through the state's Medicaid program, known as Medi-Cal.

The expansion will eventually cost the state about $3.1 billion per year, the Associated Press reported.

The move has been criticized by the California Senate Republican Caucus, who stated that the state's Medicaid program is 'already strained by serving 14.6 million Californians – more than a third of the state's population. Adding 764,000 more individuals to the system will certainly exacerbate current provider access problems.'

Lol, didn't they just announce they had a $68 billion budget deficit. What's another $3 billion

It’s offering them an opportunity to buy insurance. Did you even read what you posted?

True. But it does still say it expects to cost the state 3.1 billion per year. I assume in subsidies. Haven't read the article

Adding 700,000 people to the 14.6 million they already serve sounds like a 5% increase on top of what they already spend ...

Yes, it’s the subsidies. Similar to the ACA. Isn’t it better to have them pay in and use other points of contact as opposed to the ER?

Also, whether folks want to admit it or not, California NEEDS that labor in the fields and a healthier work force is a positive. I would suggest that people drive through the Central Valley to really understand how big the industry is in California.

My guess is even if they pay in or are put on the rolls they're still gonna use the ER. I don't think illegals are going to schedule doctors visits. I've got legal employees that don't even do that. It's all ER for everything. They don't even know how to use the system.

One of my employees didn't know how the dentist worked. How to make an appointment, pay, etc. It's just a different world for them that they didn't grow up with.

I don’t know who you think you are fooling posting Daily Mail articles through a msn aggregator. You do it often though.

This is a great move. Here is a balanced report.

California becomes first state to offer health insurance to all undocumented immigrants

California will welcome the new year by becoming the first state to offer health insurance for all undocumented immigrants.

Starting Jan. 1, all undocumented immigrants, regardless of age, will qualify for Medi-Cal, California's version of the federal Medicaid program for people with low incomes.

Previously, undocumented immigrants were not qualified to receive comprehensive health insurance but were allowed to receive emergency and pregnancy-related services under Medi-Cal as long as they met eligibility requirements, including income limits and California residency in 2014.

In 2015, undocumented children were able to join Medi-Cal under a bill signed by then-Gov. Jerry Brown. In 2019, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law an expansion of full-scope Medi-Cal access for young adults ages 19 through 25, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. Access was then further expanded to allow older adults aged 50 and older to receive full benefits, also regardless of immigration status.

Do you really believe any of these numbers which they say will cost an extra $3.1 a year for 700,000 more people to get subsidized health insurance. But the article says over 1.5 million illegals are crossing over the border every single year See... the math does NOT add up. It's band-aide compared to what they really will need for all their healthcare needs/expenses.

Righties have already shown they don't understand math. They still rail about the Mueller investigation costing millions though their forfeitures and seizures from the Trump mafia members exceeded the outlays.

The math here is that spending $3.1B will likely produce triple or more than that in other health cost savings.

I know you said "first state" but didn't all of the Democratic candidates for President in the last election raise their hand when asked if they would give free health care to illegal immigrants?

Funny... I must have missed that news cycle about all that. But nice that you still have too much Trump on your brain to concentrate on this story.

It’s pretty clear Democrats want to incentivize illegal immigration. The only question is “why?” If it is to expand their voter base, it’s like a Ponzi scheme, because as soon as illegals become legal, they want to turn the spigot off. If it is to fuel future economic growth and superpower status, I would argue there are much cheaper ways to incentivize natural birth rate and expand merit based immigration. But then we’d have to be a nation of laws and that’s a challenge these days.

For example, imagine if we offered >=98th percentile students abroad and at home Medicaid for life. If they choose to reproduce, their children are covered by Medicaid for life. Cap children at 4 and ration the cost if parents have more than 4. Not only would we attract top tier immigrants, but it would incentivize the best and brightest here at home to reproduce. Don’t kill me on specifics.

These Dems seem to think that we just invent some feigned indignation at the drop of a few words that sound something close to free healthcare for illegals.

Again their math is off. They mentioned 3.1 billion dollars subsidies for only 700k illegals. That same article said they get over 1.5 million new illegals a year... In 4 years that's 6 million new illegals.

If we do the math for 6 million people and not just 700k that subsidy comes to around $26.57 billion dollars that state people of California will have to fork over.
