Blew a 25-point lead. Complete choke job.

Welp, I officially hate Cal. Blew two games that could have taken some of the sting off of our season. I'm a big fan of Bob Schadenfreude these days. Great guy.

That fan base deserves a reality check in the worst way.

They will fix it, eventually, but as of this morning, Yahoo Sports is still showing that Cal won :)

Cal football put the cherry on top of a long and memorable day for the football program.

What started with fans gathering in the wee hours of the morning for ESPN's "College GameDay" visiting the campus for the first time ended with a late-night upset victory over No. 8 Miami.

College football is alive and well in Berkeley, California.

A Cal team that's already impressed with some early season wins came our firing from the jump on Saturday night, scoring three touchdowns on its first four possessions to put the Hurricanes in a hole.

The missed targeting was garbage, but this was 2nd and goal from the 5. OL would have to be in the end zone to be considered downfield.

"In college football, the NCAA allows ineligible receivers a maximum of 3 yards."

#73 is clearly more than 3 yards down the field when the ball leaves Ward's hand.

Rule in college is 3 yards, so in that pic #70 is okay but #73 is too far down field and should have been flagged. But its not egregious.

The targeting reversal is indefensible IMO. This was a closer play in live action. Things like this get missed, refs have a hard job.

Pretty sure it’s ok if you’re actively engaged in a block. If you’re driving your guy down the field, you don’t have to just stop and stand still at 3 yards.

Here is the full text of the rule (see page 87): https://taso.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/2023-NCAA-Football-Rule-Book.pdf

So no, that exemption you describe isn't in there. Remember the rule only applies to a downfield pass. Lineman in pass blocking generally don't drive their defenders downfield like they would do when run blocking.
