GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida baseball two-way standout Jac Caglianone was named the Perfect Game Two-Way Player of the Year as well as a National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association First Team All-American on Wednesday.

This is the second-straight year that Caglianone has been honored as the PG Two-Way Player of the Year. Meanwhile, the Tampa, Fla. native has earned his first All-America accolade of 2024 after hauling in unanimous honors one year ago.

Enjoying a magnificent campaign both in the batter's box and on the hill, Caglianone has slashed an unearthly .411/.532/.860 with 33 home runs, 79 runs scored and 68 RBI – all of which lead the Gators. The two-way standout ranks second nationally in home runs, fourth in slugging, sixth in batting average and seventh in on-base percentage. On top of that, the Tampa, Fla. native has drawn 27 more walks (52) than strikeouts (25).

It would be really nice to make it to the finals and Cags have a shot at hitting more home runs than Condon..
I believe Cags sits at 33 and Condo at 37??
Condon had an amazing year but I still believe Cags is the best player in college baseball.

I didn’t watch much of Condon this year, but his numbers are just so impressive. It looks like Jac has already played in two more games than Condon, so while I’d be all for Cags hitting five dingers this week, I don’t think it should take anything away from Condon.

Meanwhile, I would pleased to see Jac hit two more to get the Gator career HR record. Laporta earned that total over four years, and Cags is so close after only ~2.5 seasons. Incredible.

Didn't Jac get stiffed in some golden or diamond glove award? I think that goes to 5 or 6 players?
I heard Shane Matthews talking about what a travesty it was Jac didn't get selected for that.

With those stats, how do you leave him off any all-star squad?
I mean Jac is UF's babe Ruth!

Condon had better hitters behind him in the line-up. But he also delivered.

Yes, Golden Spike Award (college baseball’s best player). None of the 3 finalists lead, carried, hit, pitched and/or inspired their teams to the CWS.

The trick is not Cags hitting HR’s—it’s getting the opposition to pitch to him!

With the way Cags is hitting compared to how the rest of the Gators are hitting, I might just walk him in any situation in any inning.

Yeah, it reminds me of Matt LaPorta on our 2006 team after he set the at that time HR record for a single season in 2005. Teams would just circle his name on the lineup card with this is the one that won’t beat us.

In the post-game today an announcer said Jac has the record for most intentional walks. I couldn't find a page with that stat. But obviously...impacts HR total.

Christian Moore from Tennessee has a great shot at hitting the most homers. He sits at 33. Looks like UcheaT has a chance at the finals .
    Lots of opportunities for him.

For sure. Cags has been walked intentionally 30 times now. He hits a home run about once every 7 official at bats (I believe this was about the same for McGuire when hit 70 in the majors). So without the intentional walks, we should expect him to have about 4 more home runs. Of course, all feared hitters get intentionally walked sometimes, so we would add multiple homers to many of the best season totals using this correction.

Well the opposition continues to pitch to UT’s Christian Moore but most of their lineup is hitting .300+……can’t pitch around everybody.

That’s true also. Seeing Moore go 5-6 the other day was remarkable for Moore’s production but also his opportunity. Cags getting 6 at bats in a game seems unthinkable.

Here’s the stat comparison with Moore: Moore has had 15 more plate appearances and has recorded 40 more official at bats than Cags. He hits a home run about every 8.5 at bats. With 25 more at bats (40 minus 15), Cags would be expected to have three more home runs, putting him at a total of 37.

Of course at that point, we might as well bring in Condon whose intentional walk rate is similar to Cags’. He hits a home run about every 6.2 at bats and therefore, if treated like Moore, would have about 43 total home runs.
