I remember having my first beer and thinking that congress could really stick it to a president of the other party.

On a related note, has anyone heard from The Dud and Tricky Slicky? Are they hunting for nonsense YouTube videos and Gateway Pundit articles about how the GOP really did great yesterday?

If you wish to send more money to the IRS, by all means, get busy.
There are actually people in the world who don’t trust the govt as you seem to. You give ‘em an inch, they’ll put your biz under if you’re not the right kind of biz.

So it sounds like you have problem with tax policy. Why should that give the wealthy the ability to evade taxes?

As for your trash can example, how does poor budgetary spending justify tax evasion?

Can we not target all three simultaneously? 1) Everyone pay the taxes due, 2) Equitable tax policy, and 3) Sound budgetary spending.

One, San Francisco has nothing to do with the IRS.
Two, San Francisco ran a budget surplus in 2022 of ~ $108M
Three, four year projections are that the city budget deficit will decrease from the $400M project as recently as 2021 down to ~ $150M.

If San Francisco wants to spend some money on research for efficiency in trash collection, seems like they have demonstrated the fiscal prudence to be trusted a little bit here.

Also, how does any of that have anything to do with enforcing the current tax code and preventing wealthy from avoiding paying taxes??

Actually, its often just the opposite. The wealthy are the ones that utilize tax lawyers/shelters/loopholes/etc to avoid taxes. Stuff the typical 9-5 guy cant do.

My example for another poster was to show govt waste that’s not fair to tax payers. He gave an example of a friend he knew who Used his own business to evade taxes.

Yep, I knew a few also. Boat captain salary on company payroll, college kids' getting a salary/insurance/cars\cell phones, etc, etc. Every lunch was a business lunch. It's not that unusual.

Nope, it's not that at all. You entirely miss the point.

How about enforcing the tax laws? Once again the so called "law and order" folks want to pick and choose what laws are enforced. You seem to not care about enforcing tax laws and support a "if you're not cheating, you're not trying" mentality. Imagine that.

You worry about people possibly not playing every cent in taxes. I worry about government getting their dirty claws on my money and then constantly wanting more. Govt waste is downright sinful.

I don't trust the government. On the other hand I trust large corporations and ultra wealthy individuals who employ armies of tax attorneys and accountants to push the envelope of "legal" strategies to avoid taxation even less than I trust the federal government.

So close to what we have been told about other issues:
    • How about enforcing existing gun laws?
    • How about enforcing existing immigration laws?
    Weird the selectivity.

And there you have it. We have rooted out a major difference in our personalities. We could argue over who makes the better points but I’m cool not.

I like a level playing field. I play by the rules but clearly others feel rules/laws don’t apply to them.
