Perhaps if DeSantis had been a slave when he was young, he would have learned some valuable skills to help him win elections.
Better!!!! That quote actually comes from a 1938 Budweiser ad. Ron DeSantis bows out with a blunder, mistaking a Budweiser advert for Churchill
I have deleted a post from this thread. (Hint, none were liberals.) I also called out a conservative just like I did a liberal publicly on this thread. Facts matter.
“The quote in fact comes from a Budweiser advertisement from 1938, which featured a young boy going fishing despite a gloomy weather forecast. The ad said: “The man who has lost the spirit of youth is too busy with gloomy forecasts to gather bait, much less go fishing. Men with the spirit of youth pioneered our America… men with vision and sturdy confidence. “They found contentment in the thrill of action, knowing that success was never final and failure never fatal.”” This is what beer ads used to be like? What the hell happened to us??
Still not odd to quote Churchill. He apparently did say it (or it is at least frequently attributed to him). Did he hear it somewhere himself? Perhaps. But he certainly is cited time and again for saying it. Coaches John Wooden, Mike Ditka and Joe Paterno all used the quote claiming it was Churchill's. Quote by Winston S. Churchill: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it ...”
Actually no. A very close quote was in a book 33 years earlier than that and another 18 years earlier...That ad is just one source that the quote is attributed to. There are many possible sources. But the Budweiser ad was very late to the party. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...4QFnoECCAQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1no3wDeShITlJBRH5ZItNn
Mid 2000's, before Rudy G became a face leaking moron I saw him speak at a software conference in Vegas (I think) as the celebrity opening. He was riveting in his storytelling of 9/11. He ended the speech with a fake quote from Churchill: "If you’re not a liberal when you’re 25, you have no heart. If you’re not a conservative by the time you’re 35, you have no brain”. I looked it up when I left and thought, how could he give this speech time after time and say a quote that is easily verifiable as bogus? Really tainted the legitimacy of a good story to me.
Fair point on that. Let’s go with political topics we disagree with. I even thanked you since you are trained in reading the subsections they cited the law. And noted the section google gave me said the same basic thing that the law the decision was based on did. And you have yet to cite one thing from that law or decision to make your case or point. Because you cannot. Covid is its own thing for you lol.
Hey, ever been hit with an ice ball raining down from row 30? Fortunately, I haven't but imagine that it would be quite painful.
Thanks Rade. I can admit when I'm wrong and would admit that this was not one of my finer moments. Kinda hard for me to sit by idly when a poster flings constant barbs, but you're right. Myself and others on the board would be better off seeking the high ground. Hopefully I can find it. Wish me luck!
Meh. Even Jesus hated trolls. Flipped their tables over in the temple. I say, follow Jesus and keep flipping the tables.
There is NO excuse for a candidate with a team messing up that quote, especially in the days of Quote Investigator - About – Quote Investigator® as well as checking with actual repositories of famous figures. So much more to say, including speculating as to how it happened, but not really a close call
The table flipping thing is interesting. Another person made the same argument to me. As far as I understand (which is admittedly not very far), this is the one time Jesus seems to lose his crap. I’m not sure we should this as our model of him, compared to all the love your neighbor and turn the other stuff he also advocated. Regardless of Jesus did, we should consider what would be the best way to be. Engaging like this, what’s the best that can happen? And what’s the worst? It’s just hard for me to consider table flipping (or in our case ad hominem attacks) as an overall positive action.
At the risk of sacrilege, that reminds me of a really funny text by my buddy last year while we were waiting at Tampa Theatre for Ted Neely to come out for the 50th anniversary showing of Jesus Christ Superstar, which is still on tour, and I recommend. In any event, I texted my buddy that we were waiting for Ted, who played Jesus, who was signing officially licensed merch at a VIP reception, to introduce the movie. It was his biggest role, and he was understandably still monetizing a bit (no condemnation - great experience. My buddy's response The original clip The tour
