Really? As you (imo) pretty accurately pegged, I think the target demographics here likely point to exactly why we bicker. Most of us on this board probably have sufficient means and resources to have few real-world problems (excluding health), so we come here and manufacture pretend problems for giggles. Or as my old coworker used to say about administrative assistant cat fights, "The fights are so fierce because the stakes are so small."
I'm not a neurologist, but I've only really heard of that cognitive test given to people who are suspected of a cognitive disorder. I know it's used in hospitals to assess dementia or potential brain damage for stroke victims. Trump bragging about how well he did on one of those tests would be like Napier bragging about Stricklin saying he's not on the hot seat.
The MiniMental Status Exam is the basic standard. Supposedly DT scored high in 2000, which shocked me. Skeptical https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/health/practitioner-pro/bc-guidelines/cogimp-smmse.pdf
They elected Rick Scott, too. I think that's more of a condemnation of a large swath of Florida voters than it is a testament to DeSantis' likeability factor. It might have helped if the Dems ran stronger candidates. Also, DeSantis didn't go full MAGA until after his last election. Our draconian 6 week abortion ban, don't say gay bill, full frontal attack on Disney, etc. came after.
You can win a congressional or senatorial seat without ever being seen by a voter. I can't recall the last time I've even seen a picture let alone a video of Marco Rubio. The presidency is different. And btw, Biden is perfectly likable. Next to Trump or 9 inch lifted boots boy, Biden is Miss America likable.
The point is that 'likability' in politics is merely a function of a poly's politics. e.g.--Abraham Lincoln was so unlikable, that half the country seceded upon his election. Southerners loathed and despised him; Northerners tolerated him and respected him. Both cases, because of his politics. Had Lincoln not posed a threat to slavery, Southerners would quite likely have been just fine with him as POTUS. But b/c his election represented a threat to their way of life, they despised him personally. He was even assassinated AFTER the war, AFTER he offered amnesty to the South's soldiers, etc. The hate ran quite deep. For Abraham Lincoln. One of the most universally beloved of POTii (historically; not contemporaneously). TBL: you like yourn; we like ourn; and we find each other's peeps...deplorable. C'est la vie.
I voted for Ron DeSantis in both 2018 and 2022. But, let's be honest ..... and consider the alternative the democrats ran against him, Gillum and Crist. Not really much of a choice. It will be interesting to see who the dems put up in 2026. I've heard Gator alum Nicki Fried.
I never found Reagan, GHWB or GWB deplorable. I believe the latter stole the 2000 election but I didn't find him repulsive until the unnecessary Iraq War. Everything about Trump is deplorable right down to his diapers.
All of that may be true, it was the Dems who chose to put up the crack head Gillum against Ron D. Thank God he didn’t win we would have been shut down for years during covid.
