We've finally synched a football firing with a presidential election. Can we keep it that way so everyone has something to hope for regardless who wins the election? Not trying to make this political, it's a quality of life issue for everyone in Gator Nation.

 

IMO - anyone that isn’t currently a successful P4 coach is a risky hire this time. Someone who has shown they can navigate todays landscape of transfer portal and NIL should be at the top of the list.

AD candidates (if we need to hire one of those too) should also be part of a program that’s successfully doing it too.

 

I could be convinced with Brian Johnson.

 

I think Mike Vrabel is a guy that should get some attention as we move forward. With college football operating more and more like the NFL, a guy who was the NFL coach of the year in 2021 could be a valuable consideration. He coached under Urban at Ohio State. He's succeeded at a high level and could no doubt assemble a productive staff.

I suggested Matt Rhule in another thread a few days ago. It was pretty much ignored. I guess we are hoping for Kiffin and not really looking past our nose. I really just want to enjoy football Saturdays again.

 

I wouldn't count out James Franklin as a potential. I'm not saying he's my choice.

Interesting article here about Lane's contract situation. I had long heard Mississippi state employees were stuck with only 4-year contracts and thought that could be a negotiating opportunity for us. It appears, however, Ole Miss found a loophole by having the foundation employ Lane instead. HOWEVER, the buyout should he leave is .... only $4m.
