A coach who isn't incompetent and can win at UF while making a lot of money. It's a shit show currently because of the guy you are advocating to retain.

The learn from past mistakes component refers to hiring questionable coaches to replace our questionable coaches. Gotta stop with the ‘fire, then hire out of desperation’ game. Every time we do that we end up in a deeper hole than before. The constant turnover has its own destructive effect beyond just still having the wrong guy at the wheel. Does that make sense to you?

Napier's better is at best (undefeated with bowl win rest of the way) still worse than any of those other caoches best seasons. Facts, not opinion. By Skink logic our next coach should go 0-12 then 2-10, 3-9 etc. because he is improving.

All had 10+ win seasons in year 2, that is the expectation at UF. BN had 5. They all fell apart and all deserved to be fired just like BN does now. True BN hasn't fallen apart because he never had his stuff together to begin with.

All those coaches had good or even really good years.

Napier can make the playoffs in 2025 and still be on the hot seat in 2026. He likely cannot afford a losing season 2025-2027 even if the other seasons are good. He just has no margin of error. That’s hard to recruit in

He needs multiple good years to even catch up to those guys.

But if DJ is back and he starts winning then it’s all good

No, there are numerous examples of peograms churning through coaches until they hit on the right one. There are almost no examples of a sub .500 coach through 3 years becoming a champion. And before you try to list the unicorn Dabo, he was 19-15 through 2 1/2 seasons which included 9 wins in his first full year.

I asked you to define improvement, so go ahead.

It’s a shit show that has accumulated over 12+ years of bad hire after bad hire. I don’t want more of the same any more. Unless there’s a rock star out there ready to sign.

My logic says I’d rather give someone 6 years to develop a solution than watch 2 guys each fail after 3 years. Either way it’s 6 years lost, but one is worse. When we in fact lose 9 years watching 3 each fail after 3 years, it becomes downright destructive. The one constant in the 9 years of failure begins to look like the program not the coach(es). Now we’re talking over 12 years of failure for our program. You get it now? That’s my “Skink logic” Walrus, not any silly BS about starting out 0-12.

If Clemson hadn’t allowed Dabo 6 years, they’d never have experienced what he ended up accomplishing. Not everybody can make wonders happen in 2 or 3 years - some require more time, especially after over a decade of mediocrity while coaches come and go every 3 years.

I disagree that all those 12+ years were bad, they just get tainted by the way the coaches exited the program. Again, the Dabo timeline is off. In his 3rd full year 2011 he won 10 games he would go on to win 10+ in every year until 9 last year.

Walrus logic says the prevoius 4 coaches before Napier achieved double digit win seasons at UF in their 2nd years so Napier is the outlier not the new norm. Also, if recruiting continues as it currently is, Napier will indeed end up leaving a bigger mess than what he started with if he is retained.

There is no guarantee a rock star will be available next year, or the year after that. It's not desperation, it's actually the opposite, it's renewed hope that this is the one.

At the end of the day, I'd rather toss the dice than to just sit and watch in misery.

Dabo went 9-5 in year 1, 6-7 year 2, and 10-4 year 3 and won the ACC championship game
Dabo went to a bowl game all 3 years.
Granted it was against ACC competition, completely different pathway, but dabo is different, he was an assistant there for 5 years and then he fired Napier and the next season won the ACC right?

    Playoffs are top 12.

Champ ended a regular season at 4 and should have been fired the following year (we gave him one more).

Mac finished a year at 14 and was fired the following year. Mullen had a 7, 6, and 13 finish then was fired the following year.

That is just UF. Plenty of coaches get fired pretty quickly after a good year. Shoot Norvell may get canned this year.

If Napier goes 9-3 next year and 5-7 the year after he’s going to get fired.

Ok thanks - I get what you’re saying now. I will argue only to say if Billy manages a 9-3 next season with that schedule, the likelihood of him regressing back to 5-7 the following year would be highly unlikely. But yeah, I get your point

    **Thread Title Update**

Been traveling, so havent had a chance to chime in this week...

There is internal buzz that Lagway's injury has all but guaranteed a 4th season for Billy.

But with the update that his injury is less severe...who knows?

I read it as the Norvell syndrome. He is right back in bad graces even after a perfect regular season last year.
He had lost his margin of error and one season doesn't completely fix it.

I think the point is that if Billy has 3 losing seasons, makes the playoffs in year 4, but then regresses back to a losing season his seat will fire back up.
