I’ve always thought him to be the most likely choice. Not most popular, most likely.

I don't think the roster will look very similar after the next coaching transition.

Some of these suggestions lolz. Surprised no one has suggested Ditka or Rich Kotite.

Wonder what Gerry Dinardo is up to these days

By the end of the 2008 season Urban had the same number of National Championships as he had losses in The Swamp.

And by the end of his Florida career he had the same number of National Championships as he had losses to a rival.

That is the first two jobs on the field for the new coach. Reclaim The Swamp and reclaim the rivalries.

Urban was (iirc) 17-2 vs FSU, UGA, UT, Miami and was almost unbeatable in The Swamp.

One trick pony. Ron Zook 2.0. Cant coach his great recruits. He got "lucky" that Benjamin could catch Jameis's high throws. Thats it.
He had one elite player that he built his name on. Never did a darn thing before or after that.

Maybe we could rotate coaches like we do our QB's. I'm pretty sure we still pay Mullen, force him to stop working from home and get back on the field. He could probably get us back to being competitive with Billy's players. After a few years rotate him out so Billy can recruit more guys in. Rinse & repeat every 3 years.

Naw, Mullenz can send the plays in remotely to Billy’s VR headset!

They both love some sideways O, so it’s a match not made in heaven.

I think at one time Jimbo was a genuinely good coach. He had a great record with QB's (Matt Mauck, Jamarcus Russell, Matt Flynn, Christian Ponder, and EJ Manuel all before Winston) and OL.

He doesn't have it anymore and is cooked but that doesn't mean he was never good.

That will greatly depend on who we hire next and the timeline with which that coach was able to achieve success with our current athletes.

Sounds like the boosters want Lane bad. Honestly I think he will at least HIGHLY consider it. Might end up like the Chip Kelly situation tho.

But honestly, if Lane says no, why not finally take the chance on Kerwin Bell? Has won games at every stop. Puts up tons of yards everywhere. I know we talk about it almost as a joke but realistically what would disqualify him vs other coaches that would be considered?

Unfortunately Billy's recruiting classes have been ranked worse than Mullens. (Of course we know that a lot of players Mullen signed never even got on campus).

I'd rather go find someone else.

He was brought in as the OC was Charlie Strong at USF and didn't fare well against stronger competition.

Yes! I'm down with giving Kerwin Bell a shake. He's a Gator. Keep it in house.

According to Shane, Kerwin was NOT given the total control he was promised, including Strong's veto of who he could and couldn't recruit, and was hamstrung that entire season. Which is why, again this is according to Shane, he won't ever be an assistant for someone else again.

So I'm sure that one season at USF as Charlie was failing will be a strike on Kerwin's D1 expectations, but I think the context is a little more nuanced than assuming he can't hack it against better competition. He's been outclassing his competition at every level he's been at. We may never know what he'd do at this level with a real chance. Because I don't think that one messed up USF season was it.

    Yes, re: Billy.

But the facilities and things we offer the athletes are way better now. Not saying Billy deserves credit for all of that, but he did help. We have long criticized how cheap Foley was on such.

So, I think that part is positive. What we didn't understand is that Billy's "process" didn't include winning games.

I wont discredit him for 1 season on a bad football team while Strong was halfway out the door getting fired. Not going to say that Bell is our savior, but again the coaching carousel is a crapshoot. I dont think Bell should be a hard NO. There is not enough reason for him not to at least be interviewed. Him being a Gator is why he should at least be interviewed if he is interested.

He ran an awesome program for sure. Got to be realistic and factor in that most all that wonderfulness was accomplished by Meyer, Mullen, and Strong — together. When it became Meyer and anybody else, the results dropped significantly. I bring this up not to “hate on Meyer” as another poster is so fond of accusing me. We need to understand that Urban with two totally unknown coordinators he has to scrape up, and 19 years beyond his age when originally hired at UF, is no guarantee of equal results. If y’all can’t understand that, you’ve got blinders on.
